Tundras Owners Good Information

I have a 2008 Doublrcab Limited with 5.7L. Recently (Instantly) developed limp mode while wife was driving. 3 dash lights came on, Check Engine-solid, Traction Control-solid, and VSC-flashing. Scanned at Autozone and got a code of P2442. A little checking and I learned that this is the AIP (Air Induction Pumps) AND>>>>Toyota has extended the warranty on these to 10 years - 150,000 miles for year models 2007-2010. So a $3500-$4000 repair will be free next Tuesday.
Here's a chart I found that shows owners' experiences with dash lights that can help you diagnose and possibly find easy solutions to your dash light warnings.
Also a copy of the letter to owners.

This is a well known problems for tundras. Surprising that Toyota haven't figured out s better fix. I have a 2013 I'm supposed to have the latest and greatest but owners are still having issues. Seems to be a bigger problem in humid climates. I live in the dry dessert and my dealership has not had any issues. A new ecm update is supposed to stop limp mode. And you may notice with your new pump that when you shut the ignition off you will the pump run for a split second which is supposed to clear out any debris that may have got in there so there will not be a malfunction during next start up.

Good info. Thanks. I live in wet, humid Louisiana which has flooded the last 2 years and this occurred on a rainy day too.
Caught me by surprise. I've had no issues with mine until this and was not aware of the problem.

The limp mode is just ridiculous. Turn on a check engine light and that's it. I've read about this happening in the highway and the truck will not go over 40mph. That can cause an accident real quick. And all it is for is emissions to pump air into the exhaust system. Don't see why the engine has to go into limp mode over that.

Exactly! And could be really bad if towing when it happens.

dcheatwood,

Good information - Thanks

Do you have a link to the source of the information? I tried to enlarge it so I could read all of the information but that didn't work so well for me. A URL to the site where you got the information would be much appreciated.

I own a 2007 that I bought new and have serviced every 5K by the local dealer. They never mentioned this issue and I never got "a letter to owners" notification.

Thank you for posting the information.

Post Tundra - Save Image JPG

If you "save image as", give it a name and a location (desktop) you can enlarge it as much as needed.

Good info. I never had the issue, but saved the info I found on tundra forums. There's also a bypass procedure I think in case you're out on the road and this comes up. Before I sold my tundra I had that saved as well.
