TV brake pads
Guys,
I was wondering about brake pads for my 2007 1/2 ton Suburban. I usually use Auto Zone pads, but this was before towing. What pads have you used and liked or disliked? I need fade resistance, also good life and not a lot of brake dust.

PS I will replace the rotors at the same time.

Cannot remember the brand, but ceramic pads seem to really work well. A bit expensive, but seem to last a long time.

Ceramic pads are great, but they will warp rotors if you ride the brakes a lot. They also have dust, even though some claim less dust, but it is white, so not as noticeable.
Also, make sure you have enough brake going to the camper. I set mine up just as if the camper wasn't there. In other words, when doing 50 mph, no camper, I notice how much pressure on the pedal, and distance needed to stop. When towing the camper, I adjust the brake controller so I use the same pedal pressure, and stop in the same distance. I feel this lets the truck use it's brakes, and the trailer use the trailer brakes. You mileage may vary.

I don't use the truck brakes when towing the 5'er. I have ceramic though.

X3 on the Thermo Quiet pads. Used them on my last truck and Expedtion. Very little dust and little fade.

When towing the 5'er I use the trailer brakes to do my stopping. I don't do hard stops if I can keep from it. When I have to stop hard I will then use the TV brakes. I have severe duty ceramic brake pads on my TV that put out very very little dust.
Does that explain a little better?

That was my assumption when I read your post. Unless your set up is different than mine, activating the trailer brakes via your brake controller does NOT illuminate the brake lights on the TT. The brake lights will only illuminate when you step on the brake pedal of the TV. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken on this...

That helps but that in affect is only trully prematurely wearing out your camper brakes and allowing them to overheat.
Imo its not wise but you do what you feel comfortable with.
I hope I'm never in front of you while your using your camper brakes to slow down.
Or behind you with no brake lights.

Brake lights work off of the controller and the camper brakes are turned up all the way. Like I said, if I have to stop hard I will use the truck brakes. I am not a newbie at this. I believe I know what I'm doing. I'm not telling anyone that they should do what I do like most people on this board. I just made a suggestion because that is what I do and it works great for me.
To the original poster I use "severe duty ceramic" pads from Napa. No brake dust or brake fade towing 18,000# with a truck for 7 years that everyone tells me that I can't do it.

And yes I've ever driven a semi ..... I am as we speak driving one .
and in 19 years of driving I've never pulled the o sh&%t lever for braking.
A semi has brake lights when lever is pulled.
Your camper/tv does not when lever is moved.

I don't know why I have to explain my myself. Have ever pulled doubles? You can use you trailer brakes to help control the "wiggle". Towing for 20+ years myself. I haul 60-100,000# construction equipment now. I don't think they would allow me to do this if I were an unsafe driver.
BTW, how can anyone that has not seen my set-up tell me that my brake lights don't illuminate when I use my brake controller?
