Two trailers?

Is anyone pulling a second trailer? I have a 12' cook off trailer I would like to pull behind my 5er. Just curious if anyone has had a hitch put on at the dealer or did it yourself. I am a welder by trade so the fabrication and welding is not an issue. Just curious as to what people have done.

I may one for 2 of my pass campers. The first one was a 5th wheel. I had to weld a hitch under the camper. The last one the rear bumper was strong enough all I had to do was build one the bolted to it. Pulled a Boat up to Toledo Bens many of times with no problems. Only thing is you can not see the 2nd trailer and hard to backup. You may want to buy a camera to install on your camper.

What do you do about lights on the second trailer? How about the law any issues?

I was lucky on both camper the wires for the camper lights were easy to get to. I just spliced in to them. Never had any problems with fuses. As far as the law, I'm not sure. I heard in LA it was 65', but I pulled mine for over ten years this way and met lots of cops on the road. Never had one tell me anything about it.

Different states/provinces have different laws regarding pulling a second trailer. You need to check every state/province you plan to travel through (which you really should do anyway as they all have different speed limits etc for pulling trailers) and ensure you will be legal as the highway patol people can and will pull you over and you may find you are either going back from where you came and not going where you want to or are doing so minus 1 unit.
Also do not forget any welding / drilling of the frame will void the frame warranty.
Another thing make sure you are not over the GCWR of the truck.

Great advice from the Sasks. I know in Florida it is illegal. My neighbor did it- towed a 16 foot boat behind his 5er, and actually did it several times with no problem. BUT....One day while heading to the lake, a State Trooper pulled him over, and asked him what in the **** was he thinking? And made him drop the boat and it's trailer on the side of the road where he was, gave him a ticket, and said that the boat had to be moved from there by someone, as it could not stay there, or it would be towed! APPARENTLY, Florida has a double standard with this. He has a CDL licence, And FL. allows double semi trucks on their highways, but a private citizen can't do it!! What a bunch of mud.... Randy

The photo points out something very important...the hitch weight of the second trailer takes away pin weight on the first trailer. Need to be really careful or it will be very 'evil' towing.

I know in BC they do not allow it but alberta and Sask do. BUT it has to be a 5er then a normal ball trailer. I think 2 ball style trailers get sway in them. Also biggest heaviest trailer first lol

At that point you are better off, and safer, getting a motor home and towing the boat or other trailer safely and sanely.
