So the silver plate with the cable mounts on the ball, and your camper's pin rides in the hole on the plate? Doesn't seem heavy duty enough to me, to many different links in the chain to fail.

Actually the silver block becomes a semi permanent fixture on the pinbox, and drops onto the ball which gets locked in with a sliding pin attached to a locking cable.

It's bolted to the pinbox with rather large bolts and the block doesn't extend much beyond the forward lip of the pinbox. In person it's actually a rather robust design.
