Upgraded - 2019 F250SD 6.2L gas

Traded in the Tundra due to inadequate capacity to tow our new Wolf Pack 24pack14+ toyhauler for a new Ford F250 XLT. I got the gas engine with some nice upgrades like NAV, moonroof, heated seats, etc. Used USAA car buying service to negotiate the price. Probably got stung on the trade as they only gave $32,200 for my 2017 Tundra Limited in excellent condition with only 21k miles. Such is life when you make big boy toy mistakes...
Anyway, liking the new Ford and looking forward to see how it does with the trailer. Need to set up my WDH and then test it out. Thanks to all here who pointed out truth about my Tundra's lack of capability. With little towing experience, I want to be as safe out there as I can with my equipment so I can get experience. Question for Ford SD owners, what kind of mud flaps do you run to protect the trailer? Are these good enough?

Very nice truck and near and dear to my heart because we towed our travel trailer and fifth wheel for 3 1/2 years with our 2015 F250 4x4 Lariat 6.2L gasser. Yours is more powerful than mine was and I hope you are very happy with it. I'm convinced this is the best gas heavy duty truck in existance. I added timbrens and devices called Torquelift stabiloads to level out the truck under a load.

As much as we loved this truck we traded it for a 3500 diesel to make it easier to tow our heavier fifth wheel. I hope we don't regret this decision. I loved my f250 and I hope you do too!

I did the same thing. I traded in my Tundra for a gas F250 Platinum. The Tundra could pull my TT but it came up way short in the payload capacity. It's my first Ford and so far so good. I hope it is reliable for many years to come. I have owned 3 Tundras and they are excellent trucks.

I used Weather Tech mudflaps and they work great. Very easy to install as well. No drilling of holes.

I have a 2017 250 diesel and love it. Second the weather tech mud flaps. They work well for us.

I can't say enough good things about our gas f250. In it's standard bed form, it's probably the most versatile and reliable heavy duty truck on the market.

I've read hundreds of references to the 6.2l engine being "bullet proof". We had "zero" problems with ours in 3.5 years of service. Our only expenses were gas, oil changes. and tire rotations. Our lifetime combined mileage was 11.1 mpg. Not bad when you consider my towing miles with travel trailer, boat, and 5th wheel. We could average 8.5-9.0 mpg towing the 9500lb(verified) 5th wheel. My truck was not as powerful as yours and with the the 3.73 gearing and 20" wheels it started to become a chore pulling our 5th wheel. We coped by using the manual shift feature, which works great. At 62 mph the truck lived in 5th gear and sometimes 4th on the overpasses. We operated the truck exclusively in the flat lands of the Southeast. Careful fuel stop planning became more critical for the 5th wheel because of its height. With great trepidation, we decided to trade our f250 for a 1 ton diesel because we wanted to tow just a little bit easier and venture into more mountainous parts of the country with our 5th wheel.

You will hear lots of references to resale value on gas heavy duty trucks being poor. We absolutely did not find this to be the case. I calculated the total usage cost in the 3.5 years was a mere $7,000. This was a calculation of our original purchase price difference against an already heavily discounted new truck.

If I ever go back to a gas truck, towing what I am towing, I would seriously consider a 1 ton Ford with 4.30 gearing over our 3.73's.

Oh, I also use the weathertech no drill flaps. They have worked fantasticly on my last three trucks.

Thanks so much for the feedback. I have 18" wheels with the 4.3 rear. I don't know if that's a strange combination, but I guess I will have easier hill climbing, albeit with higher RPM and lower MPG?

Congrats!! Nice truck The 4.30's are the way to go. Pulls awesome even if the mpg's suck!

you should try the towtector . full length guards easy on and off . imo much better then the rock tamers that allow debris to bounce past them . again jmo

Rock tamers are great at protecting the trailer. Have to be careful how they're angled as they can bounce rocks back at the bumper and tailgate. Installing some paint protection film, especially since the truck is new, would help with that.

For your towing needs, you made a very good decision (3/4 ton over 1/2 ton). Good for you in recognizing that the Tundra wasn't big enough before it was too late.

After buying our trailer and towing it with our F150 that I thought was adequate, we traded up to the truck in my signature ('16 F250, 6.2L, 3.73). Most called me crazy for leaving the Ecoboost and not getting a diesel. I can tell you that after towing our 7500lbs (loaded) trailer, this truck is absolutely awesome. The stability alone is worth the upgrade. And, regarding power, it's there. There were a lot of times I would have to wind the Ecoboost up to 3500+ RPM's to keep it and the transmission in a happy spot.

Congratulations on the new truck! Wise decision for HD pulling. We love our 2017 F250 6.2 gasser. We pull 11,000 lb toyhauler. It's definitely a rugged can-do truck. We love it.
Every Toyota truck ( had 3) I've owned; I worked them daily and blew either the engine, trans, or driveline. And I'm a stickler for maintenance and staying within tow ratings. Toyota's are super crazy reliable when used moderately. But in my experience they're just not American truck tough.
I'm sure it must have been hard to give up a fine truck like a Toyota Tundra, but for pulling I think you'll love your F250 experience and never look back.

Congrats! Love my 6.2 and it pulls like mutha... just don't be afraid to spin it up to 4000+ rpm. That's where the power is. Mpg's aren't that great but I have vw jetta if I want MPG's.

I've got Duraflaps on my rig and would have any others.

Congratulations on the new truck. I just got a 2019 diesel. Lovin' it also, but damn it's big (as in taller). I can't wait to get the first tow in. Let us know how yours goes.

Nice truck! I have similar flaps on the F150. Yours look like they came with all the mounting hardware.

I am sure you are aware but since you asked one thing to be careful of is no drill mounts and not touching steel to the aluminum body. I learned this but had not really considered it at first. The flaps I installed had accounted for this so be sure yours does. Example below.

For protecting the trailer rock tamers are the best though. Enjoy the new ride!
