Upgrading from TT to 5er
The big question is,...what have I not considered???
I have a 2015 F350 SRW super crew 4wd short bed (6ft 8 inches) that I take in Wednesday morning to get the B&W turnover gooseneck and wiring harness installed. I will be ordering the Anderson Ultimate hitch here shortly, unless you guys talk me into something else. I've chosen a 5er that at max gross wt will keep me under max combined, and max pin (at 25%). What I don't know is how much squat I will get with 3k pin weight. Will airbags be needed to level the truck? Never having owned a fifth wheel, what have I not considered?

Squat? Dont worry about it until you actually get the trailer home and loaded for a trip. BTW, gooseneck? Does the trailer mfg know this? Using one could void your trailers frame warrenty. Generally speaking fifth wheel frames are not designed or strengthened sufficiently to support a gooseneck setup. Second, does this fiver have sufficient cut to allow for tight turns without hitting the truck? I think you have way more to worry about than squat.

There were some reports of the Andersen Alloy hitch having some problems with cracking welds/metal.
I have not seen if it has been corrected.
I would get the B&W Companion to go with the turnover.

I have a 2016 F350 SW with a trailer that has close to 3K pin weight and the truck sits level.

I have 2015 F350 Diesel 3180 pin and the truck sit perfectly level. Mine is about 1/4 inch from the overload springs contacting the stops and I have found if you hit a bump you get rebound off of the overload springs. I installed airbags not get level but to keep the truck from contacting the over load springs. Try it first and see what you get.

The Andersen Ultimate is a great choice. I have been using for two seasons and have no problems. It is not a gooseneck hitch. It is a fifth wheel hitch and attaches at the pin just like all 5th wheel hitches. At 32 pounds it also increases your ability to carry more gear.

Another vote for the B&W Companion, I had one in my 2012 F-350 SRW short bed, didn't even opt for the slider and had no issues on clearance with a Palomino 32bhok, I added Timbrem SES bumper stops before I picked up the trailer so don't know what it would have looked like without them, advertised hitch weight is 1872 lbs. empty.

Have an Anderson Ultimate hitch on GMC 2500HD and now on a 3500HD. Some squat on the 2500 but hardly any on the 3500. Nice and quiet towing . Very light hitch to remove and install.

Have used the Andersen hitch this year, no issues. I am pulling with a GMC 2500 HD I put Sumo Springs on mine and are very happy with them. No air, no brackets, just install and go. Helps with rebound after hitting a bump or a Kia.
