Alright fellas I was wrong( don't tell my wife, I dont want to get something started). They do consider the 8.1 a bbc.
454- 4.3" bore - 4.00" stroke
8.1(496)-4.3" bore- 4.4" stroke
502- 4.466" bore - 4.00" stroke

8.1 has a changed firing order, a new 18 bolt head patern, different Intake ports, different oil pan and metric threads compared to older big blocks. I think the 502 is considered a older bbc

We take delivery this weekend so I'll keep you posted on how the 3500 performs. Thanks for all of your great input!

Ya sorry for .

Back on topic.........Does Dodge have any big cubic inch gas trucks and any high mileage engine history? They promo the Hemi in the Ram 1500 and the Cummins diesel in the 2500/3500 lineup. Never seen a commercial for Dodge with a big gas engine.

No wonder they dropped it. Gas hog to boot. They current hemi V8 is way better performance and mileage. I leased a 1500 bighorn hemi in 2006-08. I still love that truck!

There is a lot of good info flying around, that's nice to see. Campers are a different breed and willing to help fellow campers. We spent 4 months in our
2012 Sanibel 3500 (39') 12500# dry. I pull it with a 2006 Dodge 3500 SRW and have had excellent results. This 5.9 cummins is pullin machine and I get an honest 14/16 mpg. My truck has 90k and looking to put a lot more on it.
Be safe all and happy camping!
