Viking sbh 17 weight distribution hitch

Any advice on a weight distribution for Viking sbh 17,from what I understand it's the same as a Clipper 17 bh. I looked at a Camco R3 recurve but can't find much info on it. My. Tongue weight fully loaded is 550 lbs. Tow vehicle is a 2016 Ram 1500 crew cab 5.7 Hemp. I'm new to this ,just purchased the Viking in April

Welcome to the forum its a great place to get your questions answered. With only 550 tongue weight there are many WDH on the market. I would go with a unit that had the tried and true bars with chain links. Myself I use the Pro-series WDH and like it.

Equal-I-zer 600 would barely be enough capacity for you. I would be concerned about being to close to the TW limit, and getting bouncing ("porpoising"). Equalizer does not make an 800 lbs unit. I do like my Equal-I-zer, and would recommend you call their excellent technical service line, and ask them if the 1000 lbs unit would be too stiff for you.

If not, you should find some other 800 lbs kit that includes integrated sway control. Blue Ox might have that size. I'm pretty sure the Reese Dual-Cam system does as well. Those 3 are the tops around here, as far as bang-for-the-buck, and having been around for some time.

I have blue ox and like it. They have the spring bars that go up to 350, 550, 750 and so on. If you were to get blue ox you would go with the 750# spring bars for your set up. Blue ox says if you are between 550-750 the 750# bars are what you need. Great customer service and easy to install yourself. The other WDH that people like is the equalizer 4pt. I’m not sure what their bars come in for weight size but you will not go wrong with either IMO.

we had an e2 with 600 lb bars worked great on our first TT i know they have 600,800, and 1000 lb bars for them. When we got the bigger TT we got an Anderson hitch, i really like it because it weighs about 1/2 of what the e2 weighed and i aint getting any younger

Hi Maddox,

If you're looking for a lightweight, easy to install and use WDH that does a GREAT job on sway control, seriously consider the Andersen hitch. We went from a noisy, heavy, conventional WDH, where my wife dreaded installing the bars every time we had to hook up, to a quiet and lightweight NO BAR hitch.

It's a bit pricey, but IMHO it's well worth the money.
