Real world test? OK. I worked in the lumber department at Home Depot for 5 years and loaded lumber into thousands of trucks. I'm telling you, nothing takes a load like a Ford. I've made customers sign waivers because they wanted it loaded down to the axle and squash the tires on an old beat up Ford. I shake my head as they pull away thinking, "He isn't going to make it out of the lot". A few days later that ol' beater is back for more. That may not be the same as pulling a camper, but shows me how tough they are.

I believe the old trucks were way more durable than anything offered today. Notice I didn't say more powerful, just more durable. Those old 6 poppers just keep plugging away.

Clearly, the Ram vs GM twist test didnt work out to the favor of GM.
I do think that some flex/twist is good but to the expense of binding the tailgate seems excessive and poorly engineered.
From a credibility standpoint, I'd like to see all 3, 1 tons I the same test.

IIRC, the Ford buckled the tailgate, not the GM.

I want to add some more fuel to this fire sooooo the only time the tailgate on my truck ever buckled was when I forgot to drop it before pulling out from under the fiver. That was on my 1977 F150 haven't forgot since. As far as saying about never feeling the Wildcat behind my 1 ton who ever says that has no feeling left I feel mine all the time just not as bad as a 1/2 ton. And last but not least is people bashing the 6.0-6.4. (Fords attempt to modify a international designed engine and finally got it right by building their own 6.7.) Have we not forgotten about chevys poor attempt to manufacture their own Diesels a few years back I almost bought one of those glad I didn't. When I finally Retire my Ford will still be working for me until I buy another truck still would only buy one from one of the big three depends on what I want to spend and what is the best fit for me. I like them all just at the moment I own a Ford have owned all three so it doesn't matter it is what it is.......

(Fords attempt to modify a international designed engine and finally got it right by building their own 6.7.)
Just so you know the 6.7 was not a solo effort by Ford.

The 6.7 L is the first medium duty diesel designed and built by Ford. It was designed in conjunction with AVL of Austria.
It's all on Wikipedia

Thanks Coops1. I see that "AVL assisted American Ford with the design of their new Power Stroke medium-duty truck diesel engine". It's not unusual for companies to use subcontractors to save money. The US military and military contractors do it all the time.

Here's the source for the Wiki article. diesel power magazine Ford 6.7L powerstroke diesel engine/
Ford used AVL to help with the design. AVL appears to have expertise with regards to engine noise/sound, so maybe they helped with the sound of the 6.7L engine.
