Interesting note about my ecoboost. I hooked it up to the trailer one day and immediately got a fault on the dash by the speedometer, right rear tail light fault. What the heck, got out and went back and sure enough the bulb had burned out. How cool! Installed the spare and off we went. I'm still learning things about it.

Ford put a lot of goodies in these trucks. I like that feature because you can check all your trailer lights from the driver's seat.

I just traded my ‘13 Ecoboost with 93k miles, 16k miles hooked to a 9k 5th wheel. Never had any issues with it at all, but as so many will say, it was at the extreme max of its payload ratings. But even with all that, never an issue at all with the running gear. Loved the Ecoboost ... drove around the V8’s on every mountain.

I'm on my 3rd ecoboost truck. Love these motors. They keep getting better.

Hello All, a Noob here.
Purchased a 2018 2.7 Ecoboost short bed last year, looking to upgrade from our pop up next year. Looking around 5500 - 6000 lb dry. I've seen a few I like but I'm a bit concerned about the overall length. Really don't want to go over 30' but not crazy about some of the layouts under 30'. Wondering if I'd be okay just a bit over 30' with a weight distribution hitch? Don't plan on making many long road trips and in the midwest its pretty much flat. Just trying to get some advice from you experienced campers.
My wife hates most of the floor models under 30' and prefers one of the expandable trailers (pop out beds). I'm not a huge fan but with 3 kids (11-15) we may have to settle on one of those plus they're pretty pricey IMO.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Rather than tacking your specific question onto the end of a 2 year old, 25-page thread, I highly recommend posting a new thread ... it's surprisingly affordable and you'll get a better response to your good questions.
Spoiler alert: if you're going to ask about towing with a 1/2 ton, get your payload rating off your door jamb sticker first.
Welcome and enjoy the forum.

With the only info given is a 2018 2.7 Ecoboost, can't advise you.
Need to know payload capacity, HD tow package or regular tow package, rear end ratio, which trans, cab size, bed size, 4x2 or 4x4. All these affect towing capacity numbers.

2018 2.7L V6 Ecoboost w/10 speed w/tow mo (assuming this is regular tow) 4WD Supercrew 5.5 bed
Axle Ratio 3.55
GCWR 12,900
GVWR 6600LB
Payload 1539LB
Guessing this leaves me right around 5500-6000lb trailer.
Thanks for responding.

Sounds about right. A 3 bunkend bunk hybrid will work well, since there aren't many bunkhouse models that are in that loaded weight range.

Yeah, I'm trying to avoid canvas at all cost but I may not have a choice.

You might find a bunkhouse model with a GVWR in that range but it'll probably only have 2 bunks, which means making up a dinette or sofa for the 3rd kid.

I'm good with the 2 bunk, my wife doesn't want one. She'd prefer the hybrid expandable. I just told her if she's tired of the popup matress, the hybrid is the same and she'd be tired of that within a year. Plus there is no outdoor kitchen which she desires.
The Surveyor line has a bunkhouse just a hair under 6000. Its a bit long for my liking though. Many nice 2 bunks as well.
