Hi I'm new to RVing and towing. I bought my Coachman 2013 246RKS used. I wanted to let other newbie's know about a problem I ran into (self inflicted) with my Husky WDH. I needed to move the trailer just little forward on to a leveling block. Well I left one of the chuak blocks behind one of the wheels. The trailer wouldn't move but within seconds I heard and felt a boom. I stopped and looked at the hitch. What happened was obvious. The shank stayed with the truck, the ball tilted back towards the trailer. Attached is the result after I brought the ball back into position.
What was a mistake on my part turned out to also be the fault and mistake of the installer or builder of the hitch, the original sales company of the trailer. They neglected to properly install a bolt specifically meant to prevent this from happening. The bolt in the drawing should have been tightened down against the shank. It wasn't. So if you are new to WDH's take a second and make sure the bolt is properly installed. I'm lucky. Better on a campsite than on the highway!
Thanks for the heads up! I have a Husky WDH on my trailer and will look at that bolt (although it's been in use 5 years with no trouble but worth a look!) Happy Trails!!

My hitch uses washers to set the ball angle (to adjust weight distribution) and then the bolt tightens down to keep the hitch head at that angle. The bolt can loosen over time. Good idea to check it once in a while.
