weight distribution bars.
I just picked up an 06 F150 Supercrew 4X4 with the 5.4l engine. I have not towed my Roo with it yet and won't be until spring . I was just wondering if I should even consider getting weight distribution bars. I am thinking I may not need them, but thought I would ask before spring comes along. I like to do my research and price comparison now rather than later.
Here are the weight specs on my Rockwood.
Model 25RS-HARD_SLIDE
Length 25 ft. 9 in. (7.85 m)
Hitch Weight 482 lbs. (219 kg)
Axle Weight 3,815 lbs. (1730 kg)
Unit Dry Weight 4,297 lbs. (1949 kg)
GVWR 6,482 lbs. (2940 kg)

It;s been a long time since I pulled a strait trailer, but I would say yes, get weight distribution bars. Your Hitch Weight 482 lbs. (219 kg), and it is I am guessing 2 or 3 feet behind your axle, acting as a lever, sagging down your rear suspension and taking weight off the steering axle. I belive weight distribution bars also act as anti sway as well. I hope some one with more knowledge than me chimes in on this, but my opinion is yes, get the weight distribution bars.
Cheers
Bear

MrSen,
I will have to agree with Bear.
You will need a Weight Distribution set-up and Sway Control. Click HERE , then click on Weight Distribution.
By controlling Weight Distribution and Sway, it will make your towing experience enjoyable and SAFE for your family and everyone on the road.
The two most popular WD hitches, with built-in Sway control, are the Reese Dual Cam and the Equal-i-zer brand.
I use the Equal-i-zer Hitch.
Stay Safe,

Thanks for the info everyone........after reading and looking at the video of the Equal-i-zer Hitch, I think it will be better if I did get one.
thanks again.

Coming into this kind of late and I can't give you much in the way of experience on this, but I chose the Equal-i-zer for use with my 25RS.
So far I'm satisfied, but I think that I need to move my bars another notch...

Mr. Sen I've towed 5 different travel trailers from an 18Ft to our 829FKSS and I wouldn't be without a weight distributing hitch. You can go basic with the bars and chains or all the way to a Hensley. I've found the best set up for wd and sway is the Equail-i-zer hitch like Milzats. I also found the best price at RV wholsalers. It's easy to install (took 20 min. by myself) and you have infinite adjustments. Good luck.

Thanks for the responses everyone........any other feedback would be greatly appreciated.
If anyone knows a good reliable dealer with fair prices in Canada, please send a link or info.
Thanks.

Mr. Sen I don't think you want to go to a dealer for the hitch. It'll probably cost you twice as much. Try online at rvwholesalers.com and you'll save a bunch. It gets drop shipped right from the factory. $399.00 online or $650. plus if you go to a dealer. Of course you'll have that exchange rate to Canadian but they still have to be cheaper online.
Good luck
Larry

I've been watching rvwholesalers prices on ebay, they probably have everyone beat on prices and the selection they have is great.
I've already asked them for a price on shipping for a prodigy brake controller, $20US to Canada. Not bad at all.
They have the equalizer for $399 for the 6000lb, and the 12000lb for the same price.........would it be ok to take the 12000lb for my 5000lb Roo? I may upgrade in a few years.

MrSen,
When I bought my previous Ultra-Lite trailer(5000. GVWR), my dealer gave me the Equal-i-zer with 12,000 lb. bars. It worked well. There is plenty adjustment on the "L" brackets to use the 12,000lb. bars on a lite TT.
I sold that trailer, less the Eqal-i-zer. I installed it on my new Rockwood 8315SS(7850 GVWR) and it works great.
I would think the 12,000lb. bar are OK. That way you can us it if you upgrade to a larger TT.

Now I'm feeling undersold.... I only went with the 10K bars for the same TT as MrSen.
MrSen, let us know what you end up going with, and experiences following your choice.

Mr. Sen. I did like Mike. My previous Sunline was gross 6000lb and I went to the 12,000lb bars. When I moved to the Flagstaff 829FKSS (7850 GVWR) the hitch stayed with me and is used every weekend. I traded the last trailer without a hitch. You don't get anymore with or without anyway so keep it when you move up.
