weight distribution hitch

Using this hitch for the first time and just wondered the order in hooking up and unhooking. Do I take the hitch off of the ball to the tow vehicle before releasing weight distribution bars or vice versa? Just noticed a big jolt when I released the bars before the tow vehicle the other day. Thanks for any help.

Here's how I did it: To hook up raise the trailer hook the ball to the hitch. After the ball is secured in the hitch raise the trailer tounge higher, put the spring bars in place, with the height its easier to install the spring bar chains. Once the spring bars are connected lower the tounge and your done.

To un-hook: raise the trailer tounge to release the pressure on the the spring bars un hook the spring bars, lower the tounge release the ball lock, raise the tounge and pull the tow vehicle forward.

Just Remember to set blocks infront and behind the wheels before doing any of the above, just incase the trailer decides to roll forward or back...

Any harm in just setting/releasing the bars without raising the tongue? That's how I was shown to do it and I've not had any issues other than needing a little extra ooomph when coupling or decoupling....

It's much easier to do it like dsmall said ,easier and not as dangerous. If you are backing into a spot that is unlevel and you have to use leveling boards under wheels first remove spring bars before you put your trailer on boards. This way the tv and trailer are on same angle and one spring bar is not tighter than the other.

Good point of the backing of the trailer, however I found it easier to back by removing the spring bars if I was going to have to into awkward sites...
