Weight Distribution Hitch for a 3800 lb. TT

I own an Apex 189FBS that has a dry weight of 3300 lbs.. I pull it with a Chevy Silverado 1500 V6 4.3L extended cab with tow control. Towing capacity is 4400 lbs. to 4700 lbs.. (depending on what chart you read...)

Do I really need a weight distribution hitch?

I would. I ran WD and sway on a Popup with my 1500 5.3 just for the stability. Made the ride smoother. Maybe not needed (prob was not) but for the money it was good. Now I did not buy a $1000 setup. I had a Curt setup from Cabelas or something. Real cheap but worked well for the PUP and the mini-lite we had.

EDIT: Dry weight will prob NOT be what you are towing.. Plan on worse case, the max it should weight.

your truck's owners manual should give a weight requiring a WDH.
my Avalanche's owners manual did.

and i would highly recommend one cause you're going to be near max once the trailer and truck are loaded.

We could tow our 5300 lb empty weight trailer on our F-250 SD with no problem but the WD and sway bar make is soooooo smooth that we would hate to tow without it now.

Hell when I had my first one 40 years ago I towed about an 1800 lb single axle TT and used a WD hitch. Made light work in to NO WORK

You are probably at the line where a WDH would be "needed", or "required". Lots of trucks require them at 500 lbs TW or more. But using a WDH will definitely be an improvement to your ride quality, and stability, due to returning all lost weight to the front wheels.

I have a Husky WDH with a separate sway bar. Rated to 12000 lbs. My setup runs about $450 installed. Dry weight on our rig is 4350; with a full load of water, about 4750. Plus cargo, probably around 5500. That hitch makes running real smooth and steady!
