Weight Distribution Hitch Mystery

A friend just purchased a new to him 2013 24 THS Puma. The trailer is like new and the prev. owner only used it a couple of times. The problem is the links on the WD hitch spring bars. When he hooks up on level ground. he can only drop 2 links on the left side but the right side he has to drop 3 links to get the same tension. I've used a WD hitch for 8 years and have never seen this. The trailer is level side to side. the hitch head is level, there are the same number of links on both bars and the bars look horizontal to the frame. What can be causing this? Have any of you had this happen? What was the cause? What was the solution?

Are you sure the tension blocks are mounted the same distance from the end of the tounge? The last time I saw this the blocks where off by nearly 2" from each other.

I will contact my friend and have him measure them. Thanks for the idea.

What if he does them in reverse order? The second chain is usually easier to hitch up since the first takes some of the strain from the system.

Might thoughts, also.

The OP states that his friend is using 2 links on 1 side, and 3 links on the other. Some WDH manufactures require at least 5 links of chain between the snap-up bracket and the spring bars to allow for "swing". Using 2 or 3 links over time, and something may break.

Fender measurements need to be done to see if the correct weight is being distributed to the front TV axle. Just because 2 links can be done on 1 side and 3 on the opposite does not mean that the WDH is setup correctly.
