Went and did it! New tv

Traded in my 2010 Toyota Tundra 5.7 for a 2013 Chevrolet 2500 crew cab with a duramax and allison transmission. I like it alot, hope to take a trip in a couple of weeks and see how it works with the trailer compared to the Toyota.

You will love the new TV. We have a Dodge Cummins TD. You will NEVER tow with gas again!! My advice to you, if you have never owned a diesel, is to follow the maintenance schedule in the owners manual. Diesels are not cheep to own, but when you tow, the diesel is well worth the money. Use only what is approved by Chevy when maintaining your Duramax.

Amen to maintenance. If it says 7500 miles then do it at 5000. Synthetic oils or blends are the preferred oils. I am personally sold on Schaefer oil products. I think they are the best made. They have a fuel treatment that will increase fuel mileage 10% and better. Yes, it will. Neutra for gas and diesel. Diesel treat 2000 for diesel. Go get some. They have been in business for about 175 years. Name another one who has.

Read your manual and don't use any fuel treatment (unless you want to void your warranty).

Shaefer's web site only claims 3% fuel economy increase with the diesel 2000. Have you run with and without the additive checking mileage? Just curious.

Yes I have. I have used others who work well too. The schaeffers is cheaper generally. The diesel treat is about $30 gallon and treats 2000 gals. I have had fleet customers(old job) use it with the same results. If fuel stations added it and word got out they would stay busy.

Thanks for the information. I have heard about Schaffer oil in the recent past and have been trying to have the rep. stop by and get set up. We are just out of the distributors area. But everything I have heard puts Schaffer oils in the top rankings.

This is my first diesel so it will be a learning curve. So far I like the truck and hopefully it will last a long time without any problems. I do have a concern after reading the owners manual, The exhaust cleaning process. The manual states that when the process starts you need to keep driving for at least 30 minutes and at 30 mph or higher. If you don't a cleaning by the dealership is required and is not covered under warranty. Since most of my driving is 6 miles a day to and from work I just don't know how that is going to work out. "Sorry I'm Late, but I had to drive for 30 minutes, because my truck said so".

Iwannacamp, that is good to know, I haven't heard of Shaefers before this.

Kaboom, it would be nice if they had some sort of light or indicator telling you it is in regeneration, I know my 2008 doesn't. How are you supposed to know when it is doing a regeneration?

It does have an indicator on the command center that tells you it is starting the cleaning process. Then you have to drive until it tells you it is finished, ( 30 miles at 30mph or more). The owners manual states the intervals vary depending on driving habits. So I will just have to figure it out.

My 2010 tells me when it starts and finishes, I try and get out on a HWY and run it at 60-65 till it's done.

Kinda glad my old standby 5.9 doesnt have to clean its exhaust filter. Makes me want to keep it longer. Checking into the Schaffers, doesnt look to common around here. A NAPA store 100 miles away sells it according to the web site.

I purposely bought an old one because of this crap. I don't know when the ole' dodge gives up the goat. No pun intended.
I used to sell schaeffers retail. I am completely sold on the stuff I have used. You ought to see their grease.!! Challenge get your waterproof grease and put a dab in your palm. Sprinkle on some water rub with your finger. In a few seconds you will have foam. Do it with schaeffers ... You have grease and water. They have a citrus cleaner that is good. They also have a bunch of soy products. I really don't know why. I got out about the time that got serious.

You might consider getting an Edge Insight to monitor your regen and many other items via your ODBII port. I use one on my F350 to specifically track my regen, engine temps and EGT's. The nice thing about the Insight is it is not a turner, it's basically a bunch of digital gauges giving you a deeper look into how your truck is running.

Check them out herehttp://www.edgeproducts.com/product....ed+Vehicles%29

I will check the edge insight out. This have to drive 30 minute thing might have some benefits. "Sorry dear but I had to clean the exhaust, I'll paint the fence later".

I had 31k miles on my '11 2500 before I traded it in, and never saw a regen notice on the DIC.

Huston, We have a Problem!

Excited to try out new truck, hooked up to tt and noticed trailer sat a little nose high. Decided to get to our camp ground and readjust the hitch when we got back. Checked electrical and everthing worked. Started down the street and following the owners manual attempted to set the Integrated trailer brake control,(ITBC). It did not seem to work right with gain set to max. of 10 I could barely feel the trailer braking. I thought it had something to do with the anti skid brakes or stabilization mode. Drove the 20 miles to the camp ground spent the weekend and drove back.

Comparing in to my last TV a 2010 toyota tundra with a 5.7 I was a little disappointed. The new truck just did not pull that much better and the brake controller on the Toyota worked alot better. I decided that maybe due to the hitch set up I was light on the tounge and that was part of the problem. So this weekend I towed the trailer to my shop where I had a level area to set the hitch. Set the hitch and was talking to a friend about setting the trailer brakes. We decided to check the voltage at trailer plug on the truck. We found 3.56 volts output to the trailer brakes with the gain at 0 and no brake attivated. If we adjusted gain to max. of 10 and pushed the ITBC manual lever all the way to max. the volts went up to 4.26 We tested another truck with the ITBC and found it read 0 volts with nothing activated and 11.58 volts when the lever was pushed full on. We then checked another truck with an add on controller and had the same readings 0 volts and 11+ when activated.

Now I am thinking that the trailer brakes were dragging all the time and that is why it feel like it had low power. I am also concerned about damage to the trailer brakes since they had 3.56 volts to them all the time.
