Went to get an extra key and....

Stop by the Ford to pickup a third key for the truck and was told that it $295.00 plus if you want them to program the key to work with the truck it would be a 40.00 programming fee. I ask about key with no electronics (valet key) just to open the doors locks and start the truck – in 2015 there is not such thing. The valet is standard key that you use the trucks onboard computer to setup the way you want it. I’m not sure about other years mine is 2015.

When I comment on the cost he said that a guy was in this morning with crack tail light lens on 2015 F150 with blind spot warning system and the taillight is sealed unit and you have to replace the entire unit for a cost of 895.00 plus the computer will mostly likely take a reset. He said that was typical cost of most taillights that have the blind side warning system in the taillight (not the backup warning sensors they are in the bumper). You wonder why insurance is so high! What happen to the days that there was 4 screws and 50.00 cost of just a lens.

There are other sources for additional keys then going with Ford. We have a local company ekeysforcars.com. part of their business model is to be a more cost effective solution than going back to the dealer.

I haven't used them yet, but a neighbor has. Not sure how much he saved, but the key works.

When I was in Clovis, NM, a local locksmith made me a key for my Expedition for about 30% of what the Ford dealer wanted... That's been a few years ago, but not that many.

My 2010 F150 I got one at Walmart. The first Walmart I went to said they could not do it, 2nd one near my brothers was $65 and works just fine.

With the key fob being integrated into the key and the ford passive anti theft system the keys have become outrageous in cost.

Not sure anyone has the 2011-2015 keys any cheaper or not. The new keys can be programmed using the on board computer to limit speeds, add seat belt notices and such for younger drivers, you set a primary key and then program each other key after.

You can get a standard PATS(passive anti-theft-chipped) key(one without the buttons),this key would be a lot cheaper than the one with the buttons and would be able to start the truck. You can also get a non PATS key cut for a valet key. If the customer spare key programming feature is enabled, then you would be able to program the third key yourself. the procedure to do this is as follows: you will need the 2 factory programed keys, put the 1st key in the ignition and turn the ignition on for a minimum of 6 seconds and the turn the ignition off and remove the key, with in 10 seconds put the 2nd key in the ignition and turn the ignition on for a minimum of 6 seconds and then turn the ignition off and remove the key, with in 10 seconds put the new key in the ignition and turn the ignition on for a minimum of 10 seconds, the door locks may cycle to lock and unlock. The new key should now be programed. If the new key did not program, the customer spare key programing feature may be disabled and you would have to get the dealer to enable it. If the key did not program try a second time. I will try to get the key part numbers tomorrow at work for the standard PATS key and the key used for a valet key. I'm a service tech at a FORD dealership. Hope this helps.

The key is half the problem. The remote also needs programming

I am a safety manager at a car haul company and I over see claims...895 for a sealed unit sounds reasonable when all we do is European cars. $1700 for a sealed tail light, $2500 for a rim, it never ends!

Amazon for the key and youtub for the programming. You will need to take the key to a locksmith to cut. Usually a few bucks.

If you are programing a PATS key with the buttons, the remote is automatically programed when the Pats portion of the key is programed on this truck. We sell the valet key for $8.00 and the standard PATS key for $65.00 CDN.
