Westlake Tires
I purchased a 2014 Rockwood Minilite that has Westlake Super ST tires. Are these the ''China Bombs" that I have been hearing about?

There is a pretty long thread running right now on these things. Personally there is no way in heck I would put ST tires on anything but a utility trailer

I also have the Westlake tires on a Rockwood 2703WS. 1,150 miles since September and no problems yet. I think a lot of the problems are under inflation and running over curbs when we cut that corner too close. I was looking for a better tire on Tire Rack.com but not many choices for 14" rims. Why can't the RV manufacturers offer a optional tire upgrade?

About 6000 miles so far and no problems. For me, ST means 65 mph max, max inflation, and change them out 3 or years or sooner .

Bombs...... I don't trust any of the ST tires except the Goodyear G614 but they are over 300 each.

G614 is a light truck tire, not ST.

I have about 1500 miles on mine since March and they seem to be holding up fine. I will likely change them out in the Spring before we do our big trip. But for the shorty trips we have been doing (all under 300 miles) I have not worried about them. Keep them aired up to max PSI, keep the speed at or below 65 and protect them from the sun when in storage and they should last a good while.
As for replacements, I will be going to the Maxxis M8008 ST tire. I have had them on two previous trailers and they were great. If I had 16" rims, I might consider going to an LT tire.

We have over 3500 miles on our 36QBOK ( Westlakes ) and haven't had any issues at all. Very cautious about being at 80psi and staying off the curbs. I have inspected the inner walls as well as outer walls and kept the covers on them while not on the road. I have no reason to think they shouldn't stay on for our cross country jaunt this summer. I do run two spares at all times going over the road...just in case there we encounter road hazards.

I agree with those saying they wouldn't put anything with ST on my trailer. Westlake actually makes a load range G tire that was offered as an option on my rig. I passed as I plan to get Goodyear G614's when my trailer gets home from the dealer. They are $335 mounted and balanced but worth it for the piece of mind they give. Goodyear also has a fantastic track record of backing up this line under warranty providing replacements and paying for any damage incurred during a blowout to your RV. They are a full steel carcass tire made in the US and technically are a LT tire. However, Goodyear has recently changed their official title to a "trailer position" tire. The only other tire I've read about that has had almost as good reviews is the Sailun S637 which are about half the money of the Goodyear G614. My Westlake E tires will be on craigslist the day after my trailer is in my yard.

X2...we put over 7K miles on our Westlakes before selling our fifth wheel, best factory tires we've had come with a trailer...follow all the maintenance and operating rules and they'll perform great

We put 2 very active seasons on our Westlake tires rolliin' a Rockwood 2306. I'm going to guess 3500 - 4000 miles. (I'l get out the logs and add it up soon) We started to get worried abut the China Bomb syndrome and are coming up on a trip to Florida from NC so we bit the bullet and bought Goodyear HMG 2020 at Discount Tire. Load range D and pressure up from 50 lbs to 65 lbs. They are designed and built for U-Haul. 14 inch rims. The guys at Discount Tire were sort of laughing at us saying these were tires for a much heavier trailer. I said so whats wrong with that? ....No answer.

The pressure on the side of the tire is it's max inflation. What's on the sticker on the side of the trailer is what's recommended for your trailer running that tire. Inflation is tied to capacity. So, the same tire on two different trailers will need a different pressure based on the weight of the rig. This pressure is never to exceed the max on the side of the tire though.

Every ST tire is made overseas from what I have researched. So keep in mine two things. Not made to US standards and ST tires do not meet the safety standards of that LT or Passenger tires must meet.
Why I run a Commercial L.R. H 17.5 on the RV. Even though the new RV came with Goodyear G614, we swapped them out on my trade so I could keep the 17.5's.

No, that is a fact actually. That is why a lesser ST tire can be rated to the same weight load as an LT. ST are not made to carry passengers so they are regulated through more lax set of standards.
