What do you pull with your F250 6.2 Gasser

Just upgraded my TV, now it has me thinking about upgrading my TT. Wondering what people pull with Trucks similar to mine.

I pull a 38 ft Keystone Outback 325BH travel trailer. Weights almost 11k lbs fully loaded.

I have a 2016 F250, 6.2, 4x4, CC, 6.5 ft bed. It tows the trailer nicely. I have a Reese SC WD system (15,000/1,500) and a Reese dedicated anti-sway bar.

Three add-ons I have done to the truck are:

TorkLift overload spring pads. I have the camper package, which gets you the overload springs. These TorkLift pads are just thicker and cause the overload springs to engage immediately, rather than wait for a 1k lbs first.

TorkLift Superhitch Magnum 30k. Probably the beefiest hitch I have ever seen. My hitch is no longer my truck's limiting factor.

TorkLift Superhitch double bar shank. A big shank designed for the double receiver Superhitch.

With the 6.2, I don't worry about revving it. Pulls hills just fine. I don't tow every day, so a gasser made sense for me.

We pulled a 2001 Cougar 281EFS for years. We just recently traded for a 2013 Wildcat Sterling 32RL (GVWR about 12400). Both pull just fine unless going up a steep hill, the 5.8 Triton will maintain about 40-45 is all. It does not accelerate like a diesel but that is not very important to us so the gasser gets the job done.

Just pulled our new, (to me), Puma 26RLSS trailer home on a 400 mile trip. The route was through rolling Kansas and Oklahoma hills and a pretty steep mountain climb in Oklahoma. Trailer weighs about 8000#, loaded.
My 2015 F250, 6.2 gasser, handled it with no problems. I had the cruise control set for 75mph most of the time. Average fuel mileage for the 400 mile trip home was 7.1 mpg.

I am now pulling a 2016 Work and Play 25 WB with a 2016 F250 6.2 with 373 rear. While I would love to have a diesel, the difference in price kept me in this range. We are in the Smokey Mountain area and on one 8% grade! I was in 2nd gear but at 40 MPH and could have run over the semi in front of me . We average 8 mpg at 65 MPH.

Just got a new F250 6.2L. Haven't towed yet, but we have Wildwood 31KQBTS that is 36ft and around 10,000 lbs. (haven't weighed yet either[emoji33])
I'm curious about what kind MPGs people are getting.

If you do it right you'll get the biggest TT your truck can barely handle heading down hill and then you can get a bigger truck .
i would get a tt that's well below what the truck can handle why max it out you'll have easier towing better mpg and less wear and tear on on the TV

MPG should not be considered while towing with a gasser. There are 2 reasons ~~ you saved $8K by not purchasing the diesel and it is not going to be very good. Nothing wrong or bad about towing with a gasser but depending on weight and configuration being towed MPG will not be great. Terrain and driving habits differ and will make every driver different. I see TTs and 5ers towed by gassers all the time and $8K buys a lot of gas. FR states dry is right around 8000# loaded around 10K is about right. Have fun.

I pull a 7,500lb, 28 ft. 5th wheel. I have plenty of truck left. Gasser works fine for me. 8 to 9 mpg when towing at 65 mph.

I'm pulling around 10K with my 6.2. (See my signature) No problems and have been from Michigan to Florida 3 times. I know it gears down on steep hills much more than a diesel would, but for $8K I can handle it! Happy camping to you!

Please check your tires on the camper. If they are "trailer only" tires they are most likely supposed to be pulled at a maximum speed of 65. You can research that online if you wish. A good source is etrailer.com

Speeds in excess of that will cause excess heat to build up leading to premature tire failure and possible blowouts.

When I had mine I pulled a 10000lb bumper pull. Did a great job. Burned through the gas though.

Thanks, you make a very good point here. The previous owner of this trailer junked the original tires and upgraded with good high quality tires. He also had the tires filled with nitrogen gas.
I am not sure I believe in the proclaimed benefits of nitrogen in tires, but it is supposed to be more stable when hot, or so they say.

I am towing the rig in my signature. Just returned from a 900 mile trip from northern VA to southwestern VA and back. We do about 63-64 mph on the interstate. I lock out 6th gear and use tow/haul mode. At the base of a long hill I will manually downshift to 4th just to keep the rpms up. The truck rarely downshifts to 3rd doing this. The biggest difference can be seen by using 93 octane fuel. The small amount of power increase reduces downshifting and actually gained us .5 mpg - going from 8.1 to 8.6 mpg.
