first off you shouldn't be flooring up the grade . when on a 6%+ grade at 7500+++ let it sit at 42-4300 rpm back off the gas and cruise up the pass at 45 max . the continual shifting going up grade is not good sit back and relax . most grades like this or 6 miles or less . see no need to gain speed heading up just maintain speed . if your flooring it and it hits 5500 it shifts into a higher gear your doing 55 and then start to slow down till it down shifts and up you go again . don't do that if you have to shift down in gears so it stays in the gear and maintains rpms the 6.0 will run all day at 4500

I will not be going up, nor down, at 60-65. No thank you. ; -)

Totally agree with you. I'll run 4500-5000 in 2nd gear, maybe 3rd. I was in 3rd on the 6% grades in WV but the altitude is much different. 45-50 for me max on those grades. Safety first, and I want to enjoy the ride, not white knuckle it.

They were towing 8k with those 6.2's. Same crew did the same test with the Ecoboost towing 7k. 3500 rpm's to hold 60mph and Mr. Truck claimed he could have surpassed 80mph if he had chosen.

I've had my Vengeance since November and had only towed it on short (<60 miles) trips on mostly flat terrain. Finally got to take it on a longer trip and encountered three 6 or so percent long hills in western North Carolina.

I could go uphill at close to 60 mph with the '14 Ram 1500 5.7 hemi pulling about 3800 rpm in fourth gear. Eased back to just under 55 mph and it shifted up to fifth gear and around 3200 rpm. Didn't have to floor the gas pedal, probably held about half way down.

Even better, going down the hills I was able to keep the speed around 55-60 mph using manual shift to lock the transmission in fifth or sixth gear (out of eight total) and never had to touch the brakes.

The trailer weighed just over 7,000 pounds for this trip (still 2,800 pounds below maximum gross weight).

On another note...I had noticed the TT/TV combo didn't really feel that stable during my shorter trips. Big trucks passing me was very noticeable and not very comfortable at all. Just before leaving for the last trip, I replaced the original Goodyear SRA "junk" tires with a set of Nitto E-load tires. That solved all the swaying/stability issues. Only feel a very slight movement when getting passed by the big rigs. The trailer has very adequate 15" D-load tires but I'm planning to replace them with E-load, hoping to get even more stability.

we had the same issue. it was like a NASCAR race car getting the air sucked off the vehicle when being drafted and side passed which it actually is. pull ever so slightly to the right when they are seen coming along side of you and that will break the vacuum off the trailer.
we also ran with an air deflector and it kept the side to side to a minimum on windy days. finally we sold the Reese dual cam kit and the trailer and purchased a 5th wheel. no more side to side snaking.

That's the difference between passenger tires and truck tires.

My F150 had the same SRA tires.
Replaced them with BFG AT TA E
much better. Less " squishy.

What does your truck do on steep inclines?

4:10 gears and what size tire? Don't know many youthful minded mechanics that couldn't leave well enough alone.

I can just imagine this Z71 on 10 inches of lift and 40" tires

Before the 5er I pulled TTs and found opening a window on both sides seriously reduced the pull of passing semis ~~ or maybe it was my imagination.

With 17 pages of responses, this one caught my attention. The truck is lowered. And the tire size is 295/45/20. ...?

I tow a 26RR (about 6800) loaded with bikes with an Escalade ESV with the 6.2 and most hills it downshifts into 4th (2700 RPM) at 60 MPH. Bigger hills will shift into 3rd (3500) or 2nd (4500 ish), but it will maintain speed well. However, if it were a sustained hill, I would probably drop down to about 50 and keep it in 3rd. it always has enough power to get the job done.....

Definitely not an oversize tire issue.
