I can just imagine this Z71 on 10 inches of lift and 40" tires

With 17 pages of responses, this one caught my attention. The truck is lowered. And the tire size is 295/45/20. ...?

I tow a 26RR (about 6800) loaded with bikes with an Escalade ESV with the 6.2 and most hills it downshifts into 4th (2700 RPM) at 60 MPH. Bigger hills will shift into 3rd (3500) or 2nd (4500 ish), but it will maintain speed well. However, if it were a sustained hill, I would probably drop down to about 50 and keep it in 3rd. it always has enough power to get the job done.....

Definitely not an oversize tire issue.
