What gear do I put my tranny in

Hello all,
I just purchased a 2016 Fr3 ford v10. I don't tow with my Rv. My transmission has D, 4, 2, and 1. When I am going up hill, what gear should I put my transmission in. Also, what gear when I am going down hill. I also have a tow/hall button, please let
me know if I should use that. Yesterday, while going down hill in Shenandoah National Park, my transmission seemed to be revving very high, 3 to 4k rpm. Thank you

3-4K RPM on a steep downhill is normal, same for uphill and won't hurt anything. The engine is designed to run at those RPM's all day if needed. Look up engine braking as the reason for high downhill RPM's. It is not burning gas, but is saving your brakes.

Thanks for the quick reply, so should I just leave the transmission in regular D. Should I at least turn off the overdrive, by pressing the tow haul button

Yes, regular D. I would use the tow/haul button. Don't think it turns off overdrive. Nothing wrong with using overdrive. The computer will downshift if it needs to. Some people don't like tow/haul because they say it downshifts too aggressively on steep downhills. But remember that the engine and transmission are designed to do that. Read your owners manual about tow/haul mode.

If you're not towing or hauling you don't need to use tow/haul mode. Just put her in drive "D" and enjoy the ride!

I put my Silverado 3500 when pulling in tow/haul and cruise and exhaust brake on and most the time not pulling. It helps out with the braking. It's what I do

It's a motorhome, so it is hauling itself.

I disagree.

With the added weight of the motorhome body on that chassis, it would be very similar to a truck (using that chassis) towing something.

I'd be using the tow/haul mode in the hills and mountains for sure.
That is what it was designed for.

Tow/haul gives you engine braking, when you tap the brake it will drop a gear. Thru the Rockies it worked amazingly well, I hardly had to use the brakes down hill at all. The motor likes to rev.

I once had the V10 in a 2010 F-250. I always put her in "D" and pushed the Tow/Haul button when towing. She would scream going up hills, but always made it.
The only thing that motor hurt was my billfold. She really drank the gas up in a hurry.

I've got one on my 2015 E450, pretty happy with it. [emoji106]
