Very true about resale value. At least that historically diesels have had much better resale value. I do wonder how that will hold up in the future, though. There are now lots of complex systems on diesels that will need maintenance or replacement that weren't there pre-2011/12 or so. And with newer gas engines being much more reliable and lasting much longer than in years past???? I don't know that you'll see that resale gap completely close, but I think it's possible it will narrow.

Question: What made you choose between gas or diesel? Namely I am interested if the amount you tow helped that choice and what that number was.
I am a year or so from replacing my 1500 with something else. I have 100,000 on it now and am looking to break 130 or 140 before moving on. I have already set my mind on a 2500 for replacement. I am only towing 9000 or so lbs but I want the heavier truck just because. That is about as close to emotional buying as I am getting. I tow 3500 to 4500 miles a year. The remainder of my driving is 80 to 90% highway, 60 miles to and from work all highway.
I will concede to the fact that a diesel will out power the 6.o but I am not sure if I tow enough weight or enough miles to justify the 7500 price increase and increase in maintenance and fuel cost. MPG is a SMALL consideration but I am of the theory if I need to worry about this then I need not have a trailer.
Thanks!

That is about what you will pay for a tricked out 2015 F150 EB 4x4 long bed (6.5') King Ranch
I love my truck - make no mistake - but Like Brian has recently found out the Diesel just pulls 'mo better
And, as we ALL know you WILL upgrade your RV!
We're off tomorrow to look at trucks - not messing around THIS time - it's a 1T, Cummings Turbo Diesel dually with Asin tranny in our future!

Totally agree.
I am so happy I bought the 2012 used diesel over the new Hemi for towing.
My daily driver is a 1/2ton Hemi, so I don't use the diesel unless I am going out of town or towing. It will last me a looonnnggg time at this rate.
What a pleasure to road trip in.

Be careful Sgt/Sir there are some Ram folks that will track you down for saying Cummings instead of Cummins.

I had a 09 Triton 5.4 in a Crew Cab F 150, was not bought for towing but ended up doing some. Traded on a 13 Ecoboost, much better towing, torque etc. We traded to a fifth wheel, seemed to tow well. Was overweight, rear axle especially. No problems yet was the key word. Last Saturday made a sweet deal on a Orphan F 250, loaded options wise, never driven on a test drive till I did so. Dealer cut me deal, I traded the F150 King Ranch Ecoboost.
Towed today to the Frog Rally in Campbellford Ontario. All back roads 50 to 70 kph some 100 kph for the beak in.
What a difference with a Power Stroke diesel, exhaust brake, torque and a hp power band betters 1400 and 1800 rpm in 5th gear going up hills.
If you can afford to go with a Diesel first time.

Hey Bob go for it. It is an unbelievable towing machine. I did not get the dually but I did get the Asian tranny in mine too. I can't believe how much pwr and torque the Ram has. You will love it.

Dodge has not build any pick-up trucks since 2010.
The RAM pick-up trucks are a separate business unit. You will not find the Dodge logo or marketing information on the trucks at all.
