What hitch are you-------------------

I'm about to purchase a F-250 TV with a 6'8" bed. My question is what type of hitch for a fifth wheel are you using to tow a 2011 Rockwood fifth wheel? The fifth wheel
has pretty much square corners.

I am presently using a "SLIDER #3100" which weighs 400#. I would like to go to a different hitch that will prevent the fifth wheel from hitting the cab of the F-250 with a 6'8" bed.

Any suggestions well accepted.

I have a 2013 F-350 with the 6' 8" bed. My truck has the factory tow package with the under bed 5th wheel mounts. I use the Demco Hijacker that is designed to be used with the Ford system. I love it. It is an auto-slide system and I never have to worry about it. It is a bit heave, however I put a eye bolt I the ceiling of my garage and bought a chain hoist from harbor freight that I use to lift the hitch in and out of the truck.

Once again asking for suggestions!

Need more input on the type of hitch being used on 6'8" beds for
fifth wheel towing. I have a Rockwood 8285 WS fifth wheel. I'm pretty sure
I will need some type of slider hitch to keep the front cap from hitting the truck cab.

My front cap is pretty much square across the front. It is a 2011/12 year
model. I have enclosed a picture of the front of my fifth wheel for some comparison to help in getting suggestions. I am using a #3100 Pul-Rite
slider hitch now. It is too heavy to remove from bed once installed.
I need input on a lighter hitch for my 6'8" bed so it can be removed when not towing.

If you want to go with a lighter hitch what I would do is switch to a standard 5th wheel hitch in the truck and put a Reese Revolution pin box on you 5er. What then happens is that the trailer will pivot on the pin box rather than on the trailer hitch. It sounds very odd and you would think that it would not work, but it actually should give you the clearance you need.

It would move the pivot point back 17" - 20"

Sid,
I have a 2010 Rockwood 8285WS. Pull it with an F150 with a 6 1/2' box, Reese 16K fifth wheel and the Reese Sidewinder. I never have a problem.
I am surprised you don't have the Sidewinder on your unit, I though that was standard.
Are you buying your truck at Palm Coast Ford?

The Reese 16K comes breaks down into two pieces so it's easy to move on and off he truck when necessary. Although I tend to leave mine in the truck.

Anderson Ultimate fifthwheel hitch. Great to tow with and at 70lbs for the steel and 35lbs for aluminum it is unbeatable.

B&W Companion slider with an F250 short bed here...haven't actually used the slide feature with the fiver hooked up yet but it's an awesome hitch. I have slid it without the trailer and it moves very smoothly and automatically locks in the rear position after sliding. Weighs about 253# total-head assembly about 45#, the base weighs 208#. Also rated for 18k.
