What is a good rule of thumb to set your gain at when towing a TT with a TV?

I could be wrong but I do my best to have it set to where it stopping just the trailer. Not pushing or pulling my truck. If using a digital brake controller the voltage may vary between trailers.

With all of the crazy, not paying attention drivers today, I run mine pretty aggressive. If you have a controller that is programable, I use the + 1 or +2 on the highway, then switch to less aggressive on secondary roads and into campgrounds, so it doesn't jerk as hard

How to Set the Gain on a Trailer Brake

1) Move the gain control to the 50 percent mark or the center position on the slider.

2) Test the setting by towing the trailer on a level, dry, paved road at approximately 20 mph.

3) Push the manual override button.

4) If the trailer brakes do not grip firmly, increase the gain. If the trailer brakes do lockup, reduce the gain.

I have the integrated brake control on my F150 and it's set to 8. That's fairly aggressive - enough that when some yahoo pulled out in front of me the other day and I stabbed the brakes pretty hard I heard the trailer tire(s) chirp as it crossed the paint stripe on the pavement. Better than hearing the sound of crunching steel and breaking glass though!

This is how I set mine up. Never had an issue.
