As long as I can make it up to merging speed by the end of the on ramp I could care less about my "time".
I do know that when I bought my truck it was reported to turn sub 16 second quarter miles and have trap speeds of mid 90's (Mph). Good thing my Son was grown and had his own family or he'd be bugging me to borrow the truck for the local "Street Races".
All I care about now is how well it tows my trailer up highway hills and over the mountains and being retired I don't really care how long it takes.

The older I get, the slower I go in general. And I don't even care . But my old Duramax usually has the RV up to highway speed by the end of the on ramp. Good enough...
I might pay $$$ to see some organized RV races, or even better, an RV demolition derby......

The "local" fairgrounds race track has "Boat Races" on Saturday nights. Kind of like a Demo Derby where cars run around with an old boat attached to the back of the car with a chain. Car has to finish race with the boat still attached in order to be "in the money". Somewhere out there I'm sure some race tracks have had races with travel trailers.

RV demo's are hilarious. YouTube and you'll probably find some vids. These days...instead of trying for the "speed of light" I'm more incline to..."the speed of dark."

Not that I'm into racing, especially not on the street, or pulling any trailer, or with a 4wd crew cab truck.
However, I did purchase a programmer last year for my truck, and although I didn't have the current camper yet, I did have a 28ft. pontoon boat I pulled, and I have always been interested in more power, and better performance. The second $400 programmer I bought (I sold the first one for what I paid for it) was worth every penny. I get about 2 mpg better economy, not pulling, and a noticeable difference in performance, based on the fact that my truck shifts when I tell it to, with the firmer shifts and higher rpm. I have it programmed to perform even better if the Tow/Haul button is pushed. I don't car how many HP it added, but it made my truck more fun, and more comfortable to drive, every day.
To me, that $400 is worth it as much as the $400 I spent on the WDH hitch.

It was all about the wheel hop that broke that truck and it didn't break at the Ujoints, that would be a cheap fix, it broke the transfer case output yoke. I bet it's over a $2000 fix. That broke and it dropped the shaft nose which grabbed the road and also then sheared the rear joints. Notice they didn't brake torque the 3.5 version after that as it makes even more power. Still it's things like wheel hop or spinning tires on snow or mud and them suddenly catching traction that breaks this stuff. The 2.7 is impressive either way. Even stock it beat the V8 with a tune. I don't count the slower 3.5 "stock" as they didn't build the boost first and the 3.5 was saddled with a bigger heavier truck.

I just watched a 1320 video and a guy came into the drag strip with a 70 Chevelle towing a smallish camper. He was there to race without the camper. He had an 800 horse duramax in it . He said it was a daily driver, his tow rig , and a 10sec quarter car. I thought that was pretty cool.

I grew up around lots of Road Runners and mopars. My dad loved them. He had a 73 that I loved. I got to a point as I started working on cars myself and turned to love GMs. I still have an respect for the old and now some of the new Mopars.

One State, Wyoming, requires that when towing you must be able to stop in 40 feet while driving at 20 mph.

Thanks, but no thanks. Don't give a crap how fast it gets there. I'll take diesel torque all day. Cruise control at 70, double hitched, up the hill and over the pass. These trucks are impressive for what they are, but don't kid yourself, when it comes to hauling loads, you can't beat diesel torque. Simple.
Oh yah, 3/4 ton or more.
I'm with the guys talking about brakes.
