Which diesel motor is more dependable?

Get a Scan Gauge II and monitor you oil and coolant temps. If there is a large difference in temps then you have an issue with your oil cooler and or EGR cooler. Luckily I had this on our 6.0 and was able to prevent major engine failure. Best of luck with your new truck.

Ford and Chevrolet have minimal Diesel engine experience.

They have changed engines a lot. So history is sort of meaningless..

The Cummins in the past had a lifetime warranty. This motor was used in other things. Pretty much last forever.

The v-8 is an inferior design. As it is a lot shorter it fits in more vehicles.

On the other hand Ford and Chevrolet make a better truck.

The 6.6 Duramax has evolved but GM hasn’t changed diesels “a lot” by any means. Prior to the Duramax their diesels were built by Detroit; 6.2L and 6.5L.

Ford is new to the diesel game with their own 6.7 engine, that is true. Before that they were built by International/Navistar dating back to the 1980s and the 6.9L.

Cummins is my preferred engine, but the Duramax has proven itself to be a very stout and reliable engine since the LBZ.

Hard to argue with engines that have proven themselves regardless of their design or who makes them.
