Which hitch

Just bought a Rockwood 8289ws, any advise on which type of hitch and brand to install in my 2014 Silveradro with the 6.5 ft bed. Also is there a need for airbags in the Silveradro 1500?

Welcome to the forum and congrats to your Rockwood.
You want to try and get a hitch that doesn't add a lot of weight to your truck. We have the "Anderson Ultimate" 5th wheel hitch which weighs in at only 75#. Air bags will definitely improve the handling of your truck but the specs say your 8289ws has a 1337# dry pin weight without factory or dealer options installed and without cargo. The trailer might exceed the weight carrying capacity of your Silverado.

X2 on this. A dry pin weight is much less than a loaded pin weight. You are likely looking at 1800 lbs of pin weight once loaded based on a 20% pin weight. (The average campers add approx 1000-1500 lbs of gear to a rig which puts this fiver at its max weight of 9300 lbs loaded. 20% of 9300 lbs is 1800 lbs. What is your truck rated for (both towing capacity and payload from tire loading sticker)? Remember to subtract the weight of occupants, pets and gear from that payload as well. Most fiver hitches weigh around 150 lbs. Ordinarily I would suggest a slider hitch or a sidewinder pin box but I'm thinking you may need the Anderson for weight reasons.

I agree that you will probably be over your 1/2 truck's payload capacity.
Not enough truck.
