Which hitch setup.....

Ok, I need to decide on a hitch setup.

I know the Hensley is the best, but is just out of the budget for now.

I am looking at either Equal-izer or the Reese Dual Cam

TV: 2006 Suburban 2500 4x4 6.0L
TT: Surveyor SV304

It seems both the Reese and Equalizer are good, but the reese dual cam looks like a little better setup with the sway control...

Any thoughts?

I use the Equal-i-zer and for the money imo It cant be beat.

I have used them for about 4 years now and would never go any other way for the money.

Oh yea you might check rvwholesalers for the price. Unless you talk the local dealer into a deal.

I go the best price from here

Hi John. I've had both and prefer the Equal-i-zer. Once your used to it its easier and a great buy at RV Wholesalers.

You have to drill 4 holes in the frame to mount the Reese. Makes it kind of hard to sell the trailer at some future point if you want to keep your hardware. I suspect most buyers would put off by those holes.

You may have already seen this thread, but there are some Equalizer comments in it.

Ok well we are going to get the Equalizer....

Now, the Hitch weight of the TT is 836# would the 1000/10000# model be enough?
Or should I upgrade to the 1200/12000# version?

164# of room on the Tongue weight seems close to me...or is that weight based on the TT Max weight instead of Dry?

Update: I emailed Progress Mfg (who makes the Equalizer hitch) and they recommended going with the 1200/12000# model because of the tongue weight and to be on the safe side.

I think you are probably making the right move w/ the 12k bars.

I'm running the 1200/12,000 bars on my Equal-i-zer. Been working good so far.

Just to update...

Towed 4 hours (~240mi) each way with no problems....the Equal-i-zer worked great, no sag, no sway. I did go with the 1200/12000 setup. Very easy to hitch up.

Now if I could just learn how to backup....

Just drive in circles till you get to where you need to go
