ever talk to people who have owned more than one brand of diesel truck? not many, dont exactly know why, but I have owned a Dodge with a Cummins and currently have a Ford with a Navistar. Never owned a Chevy with the Isuzu but can't say anything bad about them.

If I were in the market, and let's hope I am not anytime soon, I would look for a Cummins powered Dodge within my budget. Why do I own a Ford then? well, because it was cheap. Works fine, etc. but it is an early 6.0. I expect any given Sunday tearing it down to the block to fix any of the 1/2 dozen or so extreme short comings on this motor. Got a buddy with an early (I think they are the LBZ motors) Chevy. Same deal, bought it cheap and tore it down to replace a few things. We enjoy doing those kind of things, makes our wifes crazy. Truth is even the venerable Cummins had a few injector issues with a couple runs. If I needed one I did not have to work on, both my buddy and me would own a Cummins.

Cummins is a diesel engine builder.

Cummings is a line of clothing for, ahem, shall we say husky people, that used to be sold at Sears.

And if you are interested in a Ford with a Cummins engine:

Well I never thought my thread would turn into a manufacturers war but it has also been very informative. There is truely a wealth of knowlege on this forum. All of this information has taken some time to digest, and very much appreciated. Thanks to all who chimed in. Here's what I've found and am tossing around '06 Dodge Quad Cab 2500, 4x4, 5.9 105K miles on it. It was a tow vehicle behind a class "A" RV. One owner, who states that most of those miles are from being towed. Still has the tow bar and electrical connection on it. The other is a '02 F-250 crew cab 4x4, 7.3 with 88K miles. The problem with the F-250 is it has a 4" lift kit on it. I don't know if I can pull a 5er with the lift on it or if I have to remove the lift kit. I've heard lots of folks tow 5ers with a 3/4 ton trucks. Still keeping my eyes open, not in a big hurry as we don't have a trip planned until after the holidays.

quick note on that Dodge being towed - some people, well me anyway, feel you should not flat tow a 4x4. I would take a good look at the ball joints on that rig. not really a reason to not buy that truck, just a word of caution as flat towing has been known to prematurely wear front steering components on 4x4 vehicles.

Thanks for the heads up. I think it would be kind of cool to take this truck off the back of an RV and put in front of one...

Since this thread has gone all over the place, Iíve got to repost this video in case there are a few folks that havenít seen it. The Job 1 2008 Fords with the 6.4 diesel were recalled because of problems when the truck would go into the regeneration of the Diesel Particulate Filter. The trucks started a lot of grass fires. Watch the entire video. I wish my 6.4 would do this, I wouldnít take it back to get fixed.

Well I'm a Ford guy through and through between myself, my family, and our family business we have owned and driven the wheels off of just about every type of gas truck out there, from the 4 banger toyota pick up to the V10 Fords. Our Fords (the Rangers and F150/250) held up better than anything, with less cost of ownership at the end of their 250-300K mile life than even the Toyotas. But I have to say for my .02 if I ever buy a Diesel it will be the Dodge with the Cummins.

What ever you get be safe and .

Always buy on quality or value or both. Other reasons are BS.
