White knuckle wind !!! hated it

Hi all I have my WDH and TV set up about as good as it can get . Yesterday I was driving down hwy 5 in nor-cal and I was not enjoying myself at all . When there is no wind you can barely tell the trailer is back there I could drive 80 if I wanted too but yesterday was horrible . Kept it at 55 for way too long . Is there anything I can do to alleviate or make it better possibly reducing the stress of driving in the wind .

Sanity check:
Please tell us your front wheelwell height:
a. Before trailer attached.
b. After trailer attached, and WDH engaged.

The goal is for these 2 to be equal.

Anti-sway bar. They work amazingly well. Their clamping force is significant.

I use a WDH with built-in sway control and an anti-sway bar. I have zero issues.

No. Your sig says you have a 2500hd and you're pulling no more than 7500 pounds. You're pulling a billboard down the road.

I'm assuming that you have a sway bar hooked up with that wdh. If you don't then the answer is yes, and get one, or even 2. I have 2 on my windjammer. Still yet in high wind I can feel my unit move, truck and trailer both.

You drive at a speed that is safe for you and the motorists around you.

A 2500HD pulling a 21' TT barely needs any weight distribution but will absolutely need anti-sway. Assuming your WDH has some kind of sway control, I agree with KingFisher. What are you using for a WDH and sway prevention?

My advice is always keep your speed at no more than 65 mph (I hope you weren't serious about 80 mph). Go slower if you're feeling a lot of push from high winds. In fact, if the winds are too high, you should park it if your safety and that of other motorists around you is being put into question. You don't want to end up like this person.

Might just be a bad day, excessive wind, etc.. just a poor day to be on the road. Those happen.

Man I totally agree . Most of the time I dont even use the WDH but I figured since I have it all set up I might as well and I had the sway bar hooked up . The hitch is a EAZLIFT 10,000lb KIT including sway bar . The only reason I really even started using it was to put more weight in the bed and stop the rear suspension from taking the brunt of the whole load . I think it was just really windy and gusty .

I have got close to 80mph cruising along the Nv desert . I know thats way to fast but sometimes these diesels are so stout and powerful they seem to keep accelerating while you enjoy the ride .
If its my flat bed trailer with my hunting truck on the back i'll go 75-80 a lot going across country but its got 8 lug alxes with LT tires .

I know the feeling, towing a TT across SD. almost lost it. We got home and traded for a fifth-wheel. I will never have a TT again.

You said in your original post you have the WDH set up "about as good as it can get." and in the post above you mention you towed it "more times with out the WDH."

I'm wondering if you really have it set up correctly?

Any trailer I've towed that truly 'needed' a WDH... always did better with it, than without it.

It doesn't need it . I just figured why not set it up and use it for safety's sake.

I just pull over in a rest stop or pullout and wait until the wind subsides.

Maybe I just don't understand the... "It doesn't need it . I just figured why not set it up and use it for safety's sake."

What is the 'safety sake" you are referring to?

510Rick, in your case, "for safety's sake" mean using the WDH for the sway control, not so much because of the weight. Pulling a flatbed trailer is quite a bit different than a TT where sway is concerned. As KingFisher said, you're pulling a (3 dimensional) billboard with a TT.

If you only have one sway control arm, install a second one. That will help, but if the wind is really strong, you still may need to park it until the wind dies down.
