Always bring extra diesel for the tv. Usually around 10 or 15 gallons.

When we had short bed diesel Ford trucks, about 30 gallon tanks, we carried extra fuel for long trips. With the Ford 6.2 gas, never a problem. The long bed Ford diesel trucks have 48 gallon tanks so extra fuel is not needed.

More than likely for gasoline...not diesel.

I tow a 35' TT, have 25 gal tank, & avg 8 mpg (6.0L Gasser). I am paranoid about running out of gas. I plan to get gas every 120 to 160 miles. I plan my gas stops using Google Maps and Street view to make sure I have easy access in and out of the gas station. I do not carry extra gas.

I don’t carry extra gas since I have a 35 gallon tank in my F250. What’s aggravating is I can only get 30 gallons in it when the gauge shows empty. Not sure if I can push further after the display shows zero miles left on the tank.

Your gauge is what's not accurate. I have the same issue with the 36 gallon tank in my F150.

You can push it further.
If it's a newer 250 there is a TSB available to replace the tank and the pump for more accurate readings from the Low Fuel Warning system.

I’ll check that TSB. Thanks for the tip. It’s a 2016.

TSB only applies to 2017 34 gallon tank.

For gasoline yes and the federal government says so!!
You can gravity flow or pump diesel and its legal but gasoline is a big no no!!!
That's why no companies make a gasoline transfer tank any more!! You might want to re-read my post.

Diesel is not as volatile. Every transfer tank will have the same warning - not to be used for gasoline. I didn't make the rules I'm just trying to educate someone who asked the question. Using a transfer tank for gasoline is illegal and dangerous but to each his own.

And I appreciate being educated. Always. Seriously.

https://www.transferflow.com/regulations

You can easily have gas transfer tanks as long as they are not tied into the vehicles fuel system. If they are under 110 gallons you don't need a bulk fuel license in most states.

It gets tricky when you tie your auxiliary tank into your fuel system. Gravity feed is definitely not legal. Auto transfer with pumps and valves is legal for diesel, questionable for gas.

We use both gas and diesel manual transfer tanks on the farm trucks. The ones with a pump and a nozzle to fill other vehicles, or your own.

We used to use the auto transfer tanks, but they were too problematic. Manual transfer works just fine and is simple to install and move from vehicle to vehicle. And you don't have to worry about what the DOT reg really means. I don't think even they really know.
