First of all thank you for reading my post. I am pulling a 2012 Wildcat 313 re 34 ft with a Reese elite 18 K. When breaking the king pin hits against the front of the hitch and when taking off it hits against the rear of the hitch. It feels like the king pin sits too loosely inside the hitch. I have read and reread the hitch manual to see if some kind of adjustments can be made but there is no mention of this. We certainly don't want to damage the king pin. Can anyone tell us if this is normal as we have never pulled a fifth wheel before. Thank you.
some slop is normal. some hitches are better than others in this regard. hensley ts3 with the binkley head is prolly the tightest. then maybe the b and w. brake control make and adjustment may help. maybe get a third party with experience to check it for you...
The best thing for you to do in your case is to go to the dealer that did the installation of the hitch and verify that it is operating as it is designed. End of story.
You might be experiencing the whole hitch shifting or moving on the rails. I have a 16K Reese and had to make (4) 0.075 thick shims for the legs to stop the movement. The pin was tight, it was the legs shifting. I know the 18K has different legs, but it might be something to check.
