Wrangler Shifting Cable break

Has anyone had an issue with the transfer case shifting cable breaking on Jeep Wranglers? Just towed our 2013 Jeep Wrangler 1100 miles behind our MH, and when going through sequence to put Jeep back into 2WD from N, ended up popping the cable. Dealer said it was the plastic bushing that broke. All warranty work, but inconvenient. Wondering if anyone else out there has had this happen.

I had this happen to my Wrangler a couple of years ago after shifting out of 4wd. I had to climb under it and manually engage the the lever on the transfer case to get it back into 2wd and get home. It was fixed under warranty but with the same plastic bushing
If you absolutely don't want to experience this again, get one of these:

This is a common problem with Wranglers. The dealership will put the metal bushing to replace the plastic one if you ask them to.

Both cables (transfer case & tranny gear selector on an automatic) have this same problem on the JKs. Just helped my buddy fix his with new metal retainers and clips and new cables.

Also, if you are trying to shift the transfer case and are having difficulty, roll the Jeep by hand a few inches front or back to help line things up better.
