Yet another WD Hitch question

Hello all. Sorry to start another WD thread. I bought a Eaz-Lift Pro hitch rated for 10K off Amazon and spent hours getting it set up best I could. I ended up only eliminating about 1 inch of sag from the rear wheel well height. The thing towed lousy. After a short 100 mile trip, I went to remove the hitch and the hitch pin was so bent and scored that I had to pound it out with a 5lb hammer. No idea what caused that, maybe the shanks hole being sloppy? So,I promptly returned the WD hitch. Thank god it was Prime, so no return shipping costs.

So, moving on up. Does anyone have experience with the Reese Steadi-Flex? I was going to go with the Equal-I-Zer, but noticed the shank doesn't have much drop. The Reese's shank looks to go much lower, which I need. Plus, the Reese has friction pads, like brake pad material where the trunk on bars rub for sway control. Thought that might be quieter than metal on metal of the EQ hitch. Any pros or cons are appreciated.

My tow vehicle is a 2010 Chevy Tahoe (8300 GVWR) Pulling a 2017 Grey Wolf 26RR loaded with two ATVs to be about 7300lb.

Sorry, can't help with the Reese, but I do have the Equalizer 12k and been pleased. Do be aware that Equalizer sells pads for about $20 that prevents the metal to metal friction you describe. Theoretically this reduces sway control due to less friction but I can't tell that it has any impact on sway. I have no problem with sway.

Are you sure you were using the correct diameter pin? Doesn't sound good at all for only 100 miles. I have over 25,000 miles on my Trimax locking receiver pin with no ill effects on the pin or receiver holes.

Ya, it was the pin that came with the Eaz-Lift shank. It fit my vehicle's hitch snugly, but the shank had a little slop, not much. Not sure what caused it, but it freaked me out. I've been towing for 30 plus years, never had that happen.

I had the same issue with a RAM 1500 and a Reese shank. I actually had to shim the shank in the receiver with 1/16 inch sheet metal on the top and one side. No more bending of the receivers 5/8 inch pin! I also had the same problem with my current TV but is has a 2 1/2 in receiver and a sleeve to reduce it down to 2 inch. I found a welder that had a sleeve that fit better but I still had to shim the top slightly. I hope this helps.

If you never had that problem before (towing) with that receiver, then I'd say the shank you got with your new WDH was over-bored. If you could post a pic of your PIN you had to drive out, that would give us something to look at.

I highly recommend the Equalizer. I've tried three different hitches and it is the best by far. You can get different shanks with varying amounts of drop. From the Equalizer website, and maybe from Amazon, you can buy just the hitch with no shank, then buy the proper shank separately.

Good luck

I am very happy with my equalizer. I use the "jackets" as they call them I think and no noise. I also have a chevy 2500 4x4 and the shank is plenty long so not sure what the concern would be, I doubt your Tahoe sits anywhere close to where most 1500 or 2500 sit height wise.

Why do people try to save a dime instead of just getting the Equalizer 4 point?

Because there are others out there that work just as good.

I have used both Equalizer and Reese. I prefer the Reese units.

My current unit is a Reese SC WD system (1,500 / 15,000) along with an accessory anti-sway bar. The built-in sway control of the SC system plus the separate anti-sway bar is amazing. Better than the Equalizer in my opinion. The two systems work in similar ways, however the the Reese trunnion head /ball-mount has the ear for an anti-sway bar.

You can buy different length drops if you are concerned! From many places to include Equalizer.
I'm definitely happy with my Equalizer hitch!

I had a 2013 Tahoe 2wd and had to actually get a shorter drop when I got my 2016 f250 4x4. The receiver for the Tahoe is in the middle of the rear bumper instead of under it. I have a husky centerline TS and love it.

You can purchase different shank sizes with more rise or drop:

The Equalizer website has a calculator here:

As discussed in post #2, here are the noise reducing sway bracket jackets:

The Blue Ox hitch should also be considered. It is light weight, very easy to hook up to and eliminates sway.

I "ll chime in here, I am using the Husky Centerline WD hitch, it has the spring loaded cams which keep a constant pressure on the sway bars. If there is any sway the counter pressure increases. You can get different load sway bars to suit the tt you are towing.

I'm looking at the Husky Centerline TS, is that the one? I can't see the cams, where are they?

Please DO YOUR RESEARCH. Look at the Propride 3P.
There simply nothing that compares to it. You can search this site, Airstream's site or google or youtube. I researched my truck (2016 F150 2.7 Ecoboost 4x4 SuperCrew) for over a year. I researched my travel trailer for about the same amount of time (2016 Vlite 30 WIKSS). I was talked into the Equalizer 10,000 lbs hitch by the dealer. Whats funny is I didn't do the research on the hitch like I did on my truck or trailer. I now have the absolutely best hitch for large/heavy travel trailers, period. I just sold my brand new Equalizer hitch for $300.00. The Propride is $2600.00. big difference in price. Trust me, worth every penny
