Some states...Arkansas doesn't have inspections....or for now. I don't know how they would test for emissions.

Not true, son has an 02 Cad Deville that he is the 3rd owner and he got a notice of an ignition switch problem and it was fixed for free.

The county where I live does not have diesel emissions inspections, but this VW diesel emissions scandal may change that. The EPA is involved now.

I think what they did was make the emissions better and fuel mileage get better. In other words cheat. If I took all the emissions off my truck I would get better fuel mileage, I think I might help it out some after the warranty runs out on the truck. North Carolina does not do emissions checks in my county.

This my extend past just VW and affect the trucks that some of us drive. Maybe the gas guys will get the last laugh on the diesel folks and that including me.
I qoute;
"Gina McCarthy, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, which helped expose the scandal, warned on Tuesday that the scandal might eventually extend to other U.S. and European manufacturers of diesel-engine cars and trucks. “We have to be concerned about whether or not there are other defeat devices out there that we have not been able to detect,” McCarthy said during an energy and climate policy breakfast hosted by The Wall Street Journal and the National Association of Manufacturers."

I agree, I think Ram 1500 with Diesel engines may be one. But I would not put it past GM to do the same thing.

Amazing in this day and age many States have no emissions testing yet California has had severe limitation since the 70's. Just doesn't seem right. Remember you truck or VW smog travels to where I live in Southern Ontario! We have had drive clean for many years and stopped burning coal for electricity, the little that we did, several years ago.

There are going to be some diesel powered light duty trucks where there owners might have to remove their "tuners" and restore original ECM firmware. Diesel powered vehicles are going to be watched closely from now on.
