Charleston King Dome issues

I bought my 430BH in November 2014 at Lazy Days, upgrading from a Berkshire 390BH. Although I like the upgrades and updates, I find the King Dome does not follow the "upgrades".

It is a Model 9704LP-30 stationary , which is not available from King controls anymore. FR apparently has a contract for this outdated satellite.

Here are the issues:
1. It comes set up for DirecTV....but does not receive HD from DirecTV. It will get HD with DishNetwork, but it will only "support" one receiver. One can add an additional receiver, but it will only show a different channel if it's on the same satellite as the main receiver.....if one switches channels to another channel not on the same satellite, the satellite searches for that satellite and the main receiver goes blank until one reconfigures the satellite. This is most inconvenient. Try that home!! If one goes to a different room to view another channel and cuts out the first room? Ouch.
2. My experience is that the satellite takes an extended time to find the proper satellite, and then is only in SD......I spent an inordinate amount of time with the King Dome Tech support with little success....
3. It seems that FR went "inexpensive" to have A dome that is not in keeping with an expensive coach......and with no option to upgrade to another. The Winegard Trav'ler is great for multiple receivers and HD a with either provider. More expensive...but you get what you pay for....generally.

Anyone have the same experience? If you don't need HD, it is a moot point, but I find it difficult to go back to SD( Standard Definition).

Even the newer kingdomes work the same way with DISH Network. Traveler is the only way to get around that with dish.

I would have chosen the Trav'ler by Winegard (I had it on my Berkshire),
but the Charleston came with the King Dome.....I find it a bitter pill to swallow to have to shell out about $2,000 in addition for the Trav'ler. So far, FR has not even offered to fix or replace what they installed .....any suggestions as to whom I might call or write?

Red face

Try the King Rover. you can replace the existing product and should work for you. Not HD, but is a clean replacement. This is what I have.

Have a King-dome portable for Direct and it'll only support std. def. It'll support 2 receivers, but as the acsess card for receivers supports your program bundle, i don't think the dome can toggle back and forth at the same time for 2 different channel selections. Haven't tried that yet, though.

There are two connections on the King Dome one for each TV. There is only one prewire to the coach so to do two TVs you will have to run another cable from the top to the other location of the TV. Big job..

Ok. So we are only talking to direct tv HD fans, like was said watching anything but HD is crazy. Personal opinion . As stated in this topic I also talked with King dome tech, as he said manual for this done is obsolete . What he is saying is dome is too as previous stated here, wanted to refresh topic to see if anyone has gotten FR to move on this issue to help owners out with an up grade. Or at least give us credit for this dome which was probably about $400. They have helped some with the girard water heater. Future Charleston will know doubt have the winegard on roof. Thor units already have them. Camping word has the Trl'r on sale $1597. An $312. Install
How about it FR. Help your people out an make this right.

Have you discussed this with Randy? I seriously doubt you will get a response on the forum. He does read it but sending him a email would be a good idea.

Probably won't, his hands are sort of tied , I would guess, your going to hear something like" it's what came with coach when you bought it" which I can tell you with a long conversation with kingdome that I had " obsolete " when it was put on . New coaches are coming out with the winegard. Good luck, let us know how it ends for you
