Hot water fluctuates

Can anyone tell me the secret to consistent temperature in the shower. Some days it works great. Some days it fluctuates between hot and cold about every 20 seconds. We have the instant tank and I understand all the concepts about using the hot only and regulating based on the pressure, but even so, it's like it goes on and off. Laundry is not going and no other uses. Propane is full tank. What else can I check?

Thanks!

Mine did that this morning while showing for the first 5 minutes then it acted right the rest of the shower time. Weird I thought because it never fluctuated on me before. I'll let you know if I figure anything out.

Check to make sure the valves in the outside shower are turned off ( not just the shower head). This can cause the problem you are seeing.

Fluctuating water temperature is usually caused by rapidly fluctuating pressure if the bypasses are closed. Are you on public water or running the pump when it happens?

If on the pump you can add an accumulator tank to level out the pressure changes and that will probably help.

I assume you have a Garerd gen ll. If so look at the gen lll upgrade. It is supposed to be great. I had my gen ll switched for an Atwood and are much happier.
As for what you have now. The water regulator needs to be adjustable. The cheap ones that are preset are junk and don't work with the Gerard. Get a good one with an adjustment and a good gage. Set it to 55 lbs. adjust the output so the water is to your liking. It will change as the input temp changes. If you have the gen l you really need to call and talk to Randy about getting it upgraded.

If so its a gen ll if not its a gen l.
Randy is the warranty / repair person at FR. He is a real good guy and will help out with these type of issues. I personally would contact Gerard and see about updating the WH to a gen lll. They are getting great reviews. I believe they will upgrade it for 300$. You will need to get the new cover painted. Check out some of the posts on the Berkshire page. Our rigs have a lot in common.

Hot water fluctuates

I've had that happen a few times and i think it's air in the lines. I now ensure to run every faucet in the coach both hot and cold for a few minutes and doesn't happen anymore.

My gen 2 model is GSWH-1M.
I run the water pressure with the regulator set a 55psi, if you can get that pressure you can use only the hot water and have a nice warm shower, until the input water temp gets to cold, then I have to slow down the hot water to about half pressure. Not sure if the water will get hot enough when the input temp gets down below 40 degrees.

I have a gen II in my Berk. Adjusting the WH is easy and needs to be changed at about every 10°-15° change in ambient temperature. The adjusting knob in the Berk is located in our medicine cabinets. Turn the shower on full hot and let it run until hot water comes out of the shower head. Adjust the knob to the temperature that you want. What you are doing is adjusting the flame height in the heater itself.
Good luck.
