LPG leaking out

I filled my LP tank and it leaked out within 3 days. I checked everything out and found that the vent in the regulator was leaking. It was a $20 item so I changed it myself instead of taking it in under warrantee. Here's what I found, you can't get the old one off or the new one on the tank because the regulator is too close to the tank. I broke the old one getting it off. It's beyond me how they got it on in the first place... I bet that's why it was leaking. I bought two brass elbows and replaced the regulator and that fixed it. They told me that they had gotten a batch of bad regulators at FR but I believe the leak was caused by scraping the side of the tank when they put the original on at the factory.
