Yeah but what bit my butt was cresting the hill and realizing I was in a 45.

IH 10 thru Louisiana is not as bad as it used to be. Most of it has been resurfaced. I am going tomorrow to New Orleans from north of Houston.

Where are you going to stay in Destin? I HIGHLY recommend TopSail! This is the nicest resort park I have visited. We spent 4 days there the first week of October. Loved every minute of it.

I would consider "the Forgotten Coast" on east of Destin , Mexico Beach , Port St.Joe
Cape SanBlas , and Apalachicola -----------more beautiful , less people and traffic plus less expensive

The Mississippi Gulf Coast is worth seeing. Get off of I-10 as you get into Mississippi and follow US 90 east along the coast through Biloxi and Gulfport.

Abilene to Destin FL Area

If you travel through Louisiana on I-10 be sure to stop at Cajun Palms RV Resort in Henderson, La. and sample some good cajun cooking at the local restaurants. There's a very good one right outside the park. Walking distance from any site there.

If you need an overnight break near Lafayette,LA...stop over at the KOA in Scott, LA and make sure to dine at Fezzos that's across the Hwy...also, pick up some great Boudin & Cracklin for the road munchies at Don's Speciality Meat store next to the Harley Dealership!

Thanks everyone for the great information and I will be staying at Eglin AFB at the FamCamp. Can't beat the price for monthly stays, will have our toad for trips and to get around and have looked at a number of parks and cg in the area and we may change location. we will be there for the winter and heading back to Abilene in March sometime. Maybe try to surprise the wife and try to make Daytona in Feb for the start of NASCAR!!! Keep the info coming..
