Abilene to Destin FL Area

Well DW and I will be heading to the Destin Area for the winter. Should be heading out on the 3rd or 4th of Dec and looking at going I20 to 6 to Houston area then getting onto 10 and heading East. Anyone have any point of interest or parks along that route. Even advise as to another route would be good. Just taking our time and want to enjoy the drive.
Thanks in advance

On the Texas side...

Not sure if you want to skip Houston (I would) but you might look at taking 105 east out of Navasota through Conroe and Cleveland and picking up I-10 in Beaumont.

If you are going through Houston we have stayed at the Northlake RV Resort up in Spring and would highly recommend it.

There is a cool battleship in Mobile, AL that might be worth taking a look at.

I'll second the Hwy 6 through Aggieland to Hwy 105 from Navasota to Beaumont, then drop down to I-10. You will be much happier than having to deal with our lovely Houston traffic and apparent continuous road construction... The US290 to I-10 interchange is brand new, and the traffic is still gnarled up there daily.

No real park suggestions as we are generally trying to make miles and only looking for an overnight when we make the Destin run (the kiddos want the fastest route to the beach!).

Have you thought about about driving I-20 to Shreveport, LA then Loop 3182 to I-49 South to I-10 at Lafayette,La. I like driving I-10 to Niceville, Fl and then the Toll bridge to High 98 to Destin. RV parks/resorts along the way Mill Creek Canton,Texas about a mile south of I-20 on Trade days Blvd. (highway 19 South). Cajun Palms, Rv Resort is Henderson, LA. about 1/2 mile North of I-10.

Thanks for the information I think I will do Hwy 6 to 105 down to I10.
cudntherd- When I use to build custom Ski Boats I have done the I20 route many times going to FL and wanted a change of pace (scenery). Again thanks for the input and if anyone has anymore please keep posting.

From Waco to Navasota be aware of the changing speed limits as you enter the little towns, the local PD knows where to park. Sadly I know.
