Air Pressure in tires

Are you supposed to put max air pressure in your tires based on what's stamped on the tire cold or should I back off of the max some? Should I use regular air or nitrogen and what are the benefits and advantages of one over the other?

I run max air pressure in the tires as per the tire placard on the camper. I also use regular air since this is what my compressor uses to provide my air when I inflate the tires.

I run the 65 PSI called for on the sidewall regular air was installed by Discount Tires, it seem to work just fine.

Honestly I have done both...followed max pressure stated on tire and also what is recommended by coach manufacturer. I have towed boats for years and never had a blow out towing long distances following the stamping on the tire, they always ran cool. The other side of the coin is liability from manufacturer following his label hopefully they are close on pressure either way you should be ok. Problems occur when you are to low.

My tires were at max air pressure when received from dealer. I checked recommended and backed off to recommended and the MH handled much better.

Regular air is about 92% nitrogen, so don,t waste money on the extra 8 %....

Don't forget to bring a method to inflate your tires JIC. I put an 1000w inverter under one of the back seats of the TV and runs a 6amp craftsman inflator just fine. Also thinking of getting an electric impact gun instead on my cordless so don't have to stress about charging them all the time.

Tom,,,actually it's 78%......there sure has been a can of worms on this forum concerning Nitrogen. I myself like it since I was a chemistry major and I know what the remaining oxygen in normal air can do to the vulcanization of the rubber inside the tire. Some say its a scam,,,,some like it. You'll have to do some research and make up your own mind. You'll get battles on this forem when it comes to nitrogen.

I raced as an amateur for over 30 years. Most of us carrird a nitrogen bottle in the trailer for race tires. Main concern was moisture in the "air" produced by most air compressors. Goodyear tire people at the track did say the Nitrogen seems to stay in the tires better than air. Something about molecule size. Gave a more stable air pressure across the temperature range of cold to hot pressure. Not so important in a TT, but critical in a race tire. I do run just plain air in all my rolling stock as I also don't have a magic Nitrogen compressor. Always max sidewall pressure.

for proper tire pressure, go to www.goodyeartire.com/rv that will give you a pressure/load chart ,you will need to get a loaded tire weight then adj tire pressure acordingly
