Cool Am I crazy or just insane

I am planing a trip to Tahelequah, OK from the Rio Grande Valley. I have driven the route through Dallas many times but not towing. I planned out trip using the same route I usually use. It keeps you on your toes with sudden lane changes you have to make for your exit and now construction on 35E

So what I would like to know is which is better, 35W or 20 to 635 then onto 75 or just stick to my plan? Your thoughts please. We would be leaving Waco so I know by the time we get to Dallas it will be late morning and rush hour will have settled. No Toll Roads.

I'd just stick with 35 since it will not be rush hour time. It may be crowed but it will move. I'd personally prefer going straight than making all those highway changes. 75 has always been a mess for me.

If I can pull a 40 foot Fifth Wheel through Atlanta without crapping my pants (Ok, just a little, but still............), you can pull that baby through Dallas. Use your blinker. Figure out which freeway exits are left (a lot are, in Atlanta) and get in that lane sooner, and just let 'em honk at ya. You will have Texas plates, so they (probably) won't shoot you.

Texas, the only state I have been passed by someone using the shoulder of the road on a two lane road while I was doing the speed limit not once, but three times while I was going to and from Corpus Christi Texas.
The first time it happened scared the heck out of me.

Well if it was me I would take 35W through Dallas Ft worth. 35W is still rather busy but not nearly as bad as 35E, to 635 and then 75 is terrible. Of course 35W and 35E come back together North of Dallas in Denton so no big deal there. If you need to get onto 75 going North I would take 35W North to 82 and then head East on 82 until you get to 75, this is a much easier drive and you may still have most of your hair when you get there.

US 75 through Plano and McKinney is not as bad as it once was. Construction through McKinney is finished with only a little north of McKinney. 35W goes through Ft. Worth and not Dallas and the construction is terrible from 28th past I820 on the north edge of Ft. Worth.

I think I would go 35E to 635 and around to US 75 on the north side of Dallas. Of course, there could be construction there that wasn't there my last trip that way.

I just did that trip from Houston to OK City. Went IH 35E and the traffic was bad with lots of construction. I don't think that that I have ever been on IH 35 E near Dallas when it was an easy drive. Then when you get to OK this time of year it is hot!!!. But if you are coming from the LRGV you already know that. Good Luck and have a good trip.

But there is a ton of construction through Ft Worth right now as well. Guess you pick your poison.

Get ready for some long stop and gos on I-35 (if you take it) once you get into Oklahoma. We used it last week and they are working on several overpass abutment repairs and have cut I-35 down to one lane each way in several places. Oklahoma City had cars stacked up over 2 miles on north bound I 35 a little better than a week ago when we pulled through.

Every Freeway in the United States of America is allegedly under construction. I say allegedly only due to the plethora of orange cones, not due to any actual observed activity.

It is a national disgrace how long it takes a freeway to be repaired, and a worse one on how short the repairs last (due to 80,000 lb trucks mostly) after being completed.

Oh yeah it is hot down here. I will be going mid Aug and I don't think it will be getting any cooler than. The trip takes us from Tahlequah to Palo Duro then Deming N.M. Me, if we could I would be headed towards Seattle where they think 80+ is hot. You should of seen my son melting when he was in the RGV last year in June.

If you are comfortable pulling your rig in metro areas I would just go through the belly of the beast.
35N to 30E to 75N and you're good to go. Make sure your co-pilot is "on duty" and you'll have time to change lanes when needed since you won't be in rush hour traffic.

Being Seattle born but California raised and then returning to Seattle I know EXACTLY what you're talking about. It was funny to watch these people complain about how hot it was (80-90). I thought they had no clue what they were talking about. We also watched them run around in shorts when it was 60! We thought they were crazy. Now that we have lived in Seattle for 10+ years, I wine and cry just like the rest of them, wishing for the days in the 70's which we are having right now Just remember, for the other 300 days out of the year it's cold, rainy and yucky!

Road Construction 35W

I can't speak to I35E, but 35W is just terrible with all the construction going on where they are adding lanes and connections to the tollways. North of I20 is just awful going north to the Decator Cutoff per so. Dallas may be better even with all the challenges of the weird exits.

Brave woman. My husband usually does the majority of the driving, but it does not bother me at all to pull the trailer. Since I drive through Dallas a lot more than him, I figured it would be easier and less stressful for me to drive while he keeps an eye out for those that love to hug your rear bummer. Good thing I can be a bit aggressive at times. You just cannot be the least bit passive when dealing with city driver in any state.

Good on you gurl! I used to drive in NYC years ago. Now I get to fight the idiots in Miami and Fort Lauderdale when we go to the east coast. Grrrrrr.

Google maps is your friend, turn on the traffic setting and it will help tell you where to go.

My son and grandson went from Kansas City to Duncanville this week and we ended up telling him to come in on 75 then turn east on 635 and take it all the way around.

Bad part about DFW is no matter what between construction and traffic you're screwed.
