Thanks, NMWildcat! That's the route we'll take in December when we head from Ohio to the warmth of the Maricopa County Regional Park campgrounds.......

Also did 285 south on the way to Ft Stockton in June. Spent as much time as possible straddling the center line to avoid the pits on the right. Really sucked when I had to move over for an oncoming semi. I'd avoid it.

We so agree - just returned last week after ending our road trip with an overnight at Carlsbad KOA. Very clean campground and great customer service.

Was there a big pothole just before you drive under the archway?

We don't recall one. Although we were distracted by trying to beat a hail storm. But honestly don't recall a pothole at the entrance.

If you take this route and decide to stay in Las Cruces, we highly recommend the Sunny Acres RV Park. We have stayed there several times and hope to spend more time there this winter.

Sunny Acres isn't a bad park, it's just not in a great part of town. When we have relatives visiting in their RV we always put them up in Hacienda RV Resort. Close to I-10, Old Mesilla, several restaurants, Walmart, and is a much newer park.
