Balmy Louisiana

Thus weary traveler found a spot to sleep at the Natchitoches Walmart. Yes that is snow on the ground. 25° this morning and all local schools shut down. Added some shots from home too.

Heard on the local news that the city of Austin, TX is pretty much shut down this morning due to the winter weather delivering a layer of snow.

It's been a cold winter down south this year. I am sure glad I replaced the old HVAC systems in the house this last Nov. Our Dec and Jan electric bills have been in the $550 range, but that's a whole mess less than $900 and up in propane a month.

We didn't get really none of that over here in the northeast part of the state. Had some light snow yesterday and cold wind.......but that was about it. No accumulations.

And better than a decade ago the weather was abuzz with the terms "La Nina" and "El Nino". Wonder what next on the horizon?

All schools here closed today & tomorrow due to blowing snow and wind chills of -35 to -50. Wouldn't it be nice to hear a weather report of 'Seasonal temps and precipitation'.

Your weather reports will be saying "Seasonal temps and precipitation", but you will have to wait a couple more months before they do - remember it's still January.

I thought polar vortex was the even more politically correct way to say "it's colder than a purveyor of the black arts mammary gland."

Sure would, we keep hearing "Below Seasonal Temp" and "No Precipitation in the forecast". The followed by rainfall deficit totals.

Makes me wonder how busy and expensive the up coming Dallas Boat Show will be.

Guess I can't complain, I was down at our land outside of Hillsboro yesterday and all the tanks (tanks are what people up north call a pond) were full and there was water standing in the creek. With plenty of winter grass growing under the tree cover acreage.
