You will like to camp in all of the State Parks (I camped at 'Arrow Rock' this last weekend). There is a state wide sales tax that supports the parks (that is why there is no 'entrance fees'). 'Tactical Patience....(I like the name) St. Roberts (nice place).. Do you work at Ft. Leonard Wood? 'Bennett' is a real nice park with the fish hatchery and nature. If you like trout fishing (and cooking/eating), Montauk (fishing and canoeing) and Shepard of The Hills (Branson State Park) are great parks to camp and fish at too for trout as they have hatcheries. If like fishing, swimming, dirt bike trails (4wheelers too) and shooting off big boy toys at the Conservation firing range, check out 'Finger Lakes', north of Columbia.

I for see many more great trips for you all.

You picked a great state park for your maiden voyage. I consider Bennett Spring to be the crown jewel of the MO state park system. There’s excellent trout fishing, great campsites including some full hookups, a swimming pool, cabins, and a restaurant.

Finding a spot to fish can be problematic at times.
