best route from Madison WI to Elkhart Indiana

So we are just finishing up our last minute routes to Indiana for the FRG ralley and are going to be staying at the KOA in Madison and I was just curious as to what route people on here would recommend as the best for a Sunday drive.

So I have 2 routes,
1st From Madison on 39 all the way down to I80 and to Elkhart.
2nd. From Madison on 39 to I90 around Chicago and then onto I80 to Elkhart.

Anyone know which would be the best route to take?

if it was me living in IL. all my life I do not take I 90 or I 294 they are too close to chicago what I would take is the way I go to Indiana and you can take it from madison. Take 39/I90 out of Madison stay on I 90east toward Chicago take the 290/53 to 355 south to I 80 east to Indiana this is a very easy route take but make sure you enough fuel to make into indiana getting fuel along I 90 and 355 is not easy with a big rig like mine. there is a couple truck stops at hampshire rt. 20 exit.


we'll be leaving sunday also watch for a blue dodge ram pulling a 34' rockwood

Thanks Mike. As you see in my sig our unit is not small either, Dodge Megacab hauling a 34 1/2' V-Lite.
