Buffalo River in Arkansas is closed

(I moved this to it's own thread, so as to not hijack another thread)

Man, I hate to hear these stories. There are lot's of places you have to make reservations a year in advance to get into, and won't ever be able to get back now.

I know it's a little off-topic and won't help the OP any, but is reflective of the situation.

I received an email yesterday from Harrison, Arkansas Tourism, which I signed up for newsletters several years ago. The email was titled "Buffalo River Shutdown Blues" and gave tips on other things to do and places to visit in the area since the Buffalo River was closed.

It never occurred to me that the Buffalo River, would/could close.........but it is a designated national river......and is closed.

The rivers are not closed, any individual can go on the waterways and have no issues. The Mississippi, Ohio, Missouri, Arkansas, the Great Lakes are all not closed. Any privately owned land along all of these (and more) rivers are access points to put in and take out. There are many private and state campgrounds along these rivers. Have you heard of the locks and damns on any major river being shut down.....? They have not been. Private and commercial use is humming right alone. Support your private campgrounds and state parks and get your boats out on the water.

The Buffalo National River is closed, and is a different situation. All 150 miles are run by either the US Forest Service or US Park Service.

I bet that other national rivers are in same situation, and would advise any members who may have plans to visit them, to check first.

I know lots of river accesses on the Potomac River here in DC are closed. Some marinas in the DC area that are commonly used for boat launches are closed. Same with some quasi-private kayak rental shacks.
