Campground Joplin, MO or outside of St Louis, MO

Hello, We are planning on traveling from Chicago to Dallas. We would like to find a nice campground around Joplin, MO for the trip down and a nice campground around the St. Louis area for on the trip home. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

Bill, If you come around the west side of St. Louis on I-270 instead of going through downtown (and with the construction they are doing on the Illinois side, that probably isn't a bad idea), this one would be pretty convenient for the St. Louis area. It is part of the City of St. Peters Park Department.

If you are just staying overnight or a couple of days and not needing all of the extras, just electric and water in on a concrete lot, Downstream Casino has a RV Park off of I-44 at OK and Mo state line. It is free for 1 night by signing up for a players card, don't have to play. Need more than 1 night, both get a card and alternate, checking in at the Q store each day. They also have Wi-Fi and a dump station. Does not have all extras, but a cheap place to stay (unless you play at the Casino too long). Not far off of I-44, easy on and easy off. They do not take reservations, just pull in, set up, go get card, stop at Q Store (located at RV Park) to check in. They also have a shuttle to the Casino if needed ( about 1/2 mile to it).

Have a good and safe trip.

When my wife and I travel we look for RV parks close to the highway we’re traveling on for overnight stops. In the Joplin area I would suggest the Joplin KOA. Like most KOA’s it's a bit pricey but it’s an excellent choice for overnighting in the Joplin area.

Since you’re probably coming back by way of I-44, two campgrounds come to mind for the St. Louis area, Pin Oak Creek RV Park in Villa Ridge, MO or the St. Louis West/Historic Route 66 KOA in Eureka, MO. Both are good for overnight stops but I think the KOA is a bit better.

Also in Eureka there is a Jellystone RV Park, DON’T EVEN BOTHER!!

The Rv express at the 101 mile marker on I-44 in Marshfield Mo. is a quaint little place with full hookups. right off the highway within walking distance to food and shopping. Not quite to joplin but a nice place to spend the night.

There is great state park called Babler S. P. off of hwy 40 in west county by the Boone Bridge in Chesterfield. It's about 30 to 40 min west of St. Louis. If your into shopping, there are 2 new outlet malls nearby. Plenty of places to eat in the area too. Have a safe trip !

This is one of the hidden gems around St. Louis, IMHO. You are just far enough outside the city to be camping, but close enough to go in to attractions etc. The Park is beautiful and the campground is well laid out, and very spacious. Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park | Missouri State Parks

However - if you are coming up I-44 from Joplin, I don't think it will be very convenient. It is located a few miles off I-64/US 40 in Chesterfield, about 30 minutes due East of St. Louis.

We have stayed at Pin Oak on I-44 and found it very convenient for a single night. The staff was incredibly helpful and the kids enjoyed the small but serviceable mini-golf and playground.

Thanks to all for the great responses and ideas. We have decided to extend our travels and go a little off the straight shot. We are thinking of stopping for a few nights at Roaring River S.P. on the way down. We are planning on spending a couple of nights at Babler S.P. on the way home. Your ideas were extremely appreciated. We'll let you know how it goes! Happy Camping!

We had a wonderful trip! We stayed three nights at the Roaring River SP on the way to Texas. It was a very nice SP. The river is great for fishing. We hiked on the hiking trails. It is a beautiful area.
On the way back, we were planning on going to Babler SP for two nights, but it was getting late and we wanted to set up before dark so we stopped at Onondaga Cave SP. That was a very nice surprise. It is a beautiful SP. The facilities are very nice. The cave tour was very interesting. We also did some hiking. You really feel like you get away from everything, there is no internet phone service, but at least there was WIFI.
It was a very nice trip. It is extremely sad that this is the last trip for our season.

You made the right choice staying at Onondaga Cave SP, it's much better than Babler SP.

Glad you had a good trip. We have some great state parks here in Missouri, glad you enjoyed one of them.

Both of the SPs that we stayed at were Missouri SPs. Coming from IL we were extremely impressed with both SPs. If these two are any indication of the Missouri SPs we said that anyone living in Missouri is very lucky to have such wonderful SPs so near to them. What a nice state resource.

Campground Joplin, MO or outside of St Louis, MO

Very nice state parks along I-44, MO State Parks website can offer camping information along your journey. A few my wife and I like are Meramec SP and Bennett Spring SP.

Lake 370 in St. Peters (west burb of St. Louis) is really nice. Good interstate access. If you want to get further west on 40 past St. Louis, we like Ozark Outdoors. Road to get there is two-lane and curvy but only about 20 minutes.

Do you mean I44 instead of 40?

It would be hi-way 40 West of St.Louis. Goes to Kansas City. I-70 replaced it and only 'parts' of 40 are now used. "I-70" is the interstate access that he is talking about.
