This summer we plan to camp all around North/ Central Texas, and as we do if we camp somewhere really cool or unique I will try to post it.
This past weekend my wife and I spent Friday evening through Sunday morning in Glenrose, tx. We stayed at a campground inside the city limits called Oakdale Park. It was a great park, very clean, full hookups, very nice and very large pool, they have bands every Saturday night and it is literally right across the street from Big Rocks (one of the main attractions for the area).
Given our limited time there we didn't get to do everything that Glenrose has to offer. However we made great use of Saturday and did a lot of fun stuff. We spent a little time at big rocks walking around in the water, we went to down town and walked around the square checking out the antique shops and art galleries, we went kayaking in the paluxy, we went and rode our bikes to Heritage park and we went to a place called the fossil hunter. All and all it was awesome.
Big rocks is probably one of Glenrose's most famous spots, it's an area where one of the rivers flows through town, and along the shores are these huge rocks that are fun to play on and walk around in (very popular swimming spot). The down town area has about 6 antique shops along with clothing stores and art galleries. While down town we visited the Sommerville County Museum, it is free to visit and is full of artifacts, relics and fossils from around the Glenrose area. Being that we are into kayaking and canoeing it would have been silly to go to Glenrose with out going kayaking and it was a lot of fun. When we rode our bikes to Heritage Park, it was really fun and very relaxing, with the well maintained paths it was a fun ride. When we got to Heritage park we came across 4 very old buildings, each with a plaque stating the buildings history why it is there, which was really cool to my wife and I. We didn't spend much time in The Fossil Hunter because we plan to go back with our daughter and let her do the $5 fossil hunt that they do, but it was a really cool store with really cool stuff for really good prices (it would be an awesome place for a fossil collector to go).
All in all we had a fantastic time and we didn't even do 1/2 of the stuff that Glenrose has to offer. I would highly recommend this place for a family or just a couple looking for a fun weekend. We will be returning again this summer, taking our little girl next time. Next time we will make sure to go to Fossil Rim Wildlife Center and go to Dinosaur park, and take our canoe instead of our kayak. Anyone looking for a fun camping adventure in the North/ Central Texas area, this is a must!

I forgot to mention, right outside the gate of the campground is one of the best snow cone shacks ever! This is a 32oz banana/ blue coconut shaved ice snow cone!!!
